Is A Maths really the same as E Maths? I know they are both \"maths\", but it's like an accountant (e-math) vs a astrologist (a-math).
You may want to check with the school if out of stream subject is allowed. The school has to give approval to register the additional subject for your child to take for O level exam.
Another advice is not to take pure Biology with pure Geography or pure History as they are very content-heavy and requires more memory work.
Taking E Maths and A Maths with pure Physics is a good choice as it kills 3 birds with 1 stone if your child is very strong in Maths foundation since lower Sec. -

completely different!
amath is definitely a must for those thinking of going to jc (as key concepts like differentiation, integration, quadratic inequalities etc are taught here). without amath background, a student would likely struggle a lot with jc math (assuming h2 math) -
Thanks to all for your advice. I have checked with MOE and their advice is to register A- Math for O level through the school. I have talked to the school HOD and they did not say no but discouraged me from doing so. My son on the other hand is determined to take A math even though his appeal was rejected. So what I can do now is to let him learn his A math privately and appeal again. Hopefully all goes well. Thanks.

Wow. You should be very proud of your son. Never let anyone say you can't do something. Good luck!

Hi AAA09,
in 2022 Term 1 when Sec 3 A-Maths exam start in late February or early March, ask the school to let your son take their A-maths Term 1 exam paper. If your son can pass, appeal to let him attend A-maths school lessons.
Alternately, transfer your son out to other Sec schools, that allow him to take A-Maths -
Hi everyone, I have a boy in Sec 3 and has taken triple science. Looking for advise as to which of the 3 is tough. I know its individualistic to a certain extent whether he finds one tuf. But generally, heard Sec 2 physic is tough but sec 3 onwards kids find Chem tuf. Bio is more memorising.
My son generally finds physics tough last year but loves chem n bio.
But wondering if I shd get him Physics tuition to cope first? Any thoughts? -
The best person to answer your question is your son himself, studying IP. You may discuss with him the following-
1)
does he need Physics tuition, in the first case ?
If no need,
don’t waste your $ and time.
2)
does he even have the TIME to attend any tuition, be it Physics or any other subject ?
As u know,
Triple Science is a very heavy year 3 subject combination. He already has too much food on his plate, not to mention his Cca, how many times a week ?
plus he still need to attend MOELC 3rd language, plus stay back certain days to attend IP project meeting(s) with his team members, or stay back other days to attend Talent Development programme ?
There’s a lot of food, on his plate already.
3) since he is in IP, can ask him
is it Physics or Bio that he most likely to drop in Year 5 (A level) ?
Focus more, on that subject he more likely to continue into A-level, apart from Chemistry.
Focus less, on the subject he most likely to drop at A level
Those who are strong in Maths, are usually naturally good in
( Physics and Computing )
Seriously, once a student embark on Triple Sciences subject combination -
3) not only is their daily class timetable longer than those students taking Double Pure Sciences, because now you end up having one more extra Science subject compared to others + the accompanying compulsory laboratory work required for that Science mastery content which is demanding, but also
4) they find that everyday come back home so late, hardly can afford the time to attend some more external tuition outside school hours ? -
Can name some Secondary schools in Singapore, that offer this type of
(one Pure Science + one Combined Science )
Sec 3 subject combination ?
Eg.
either
Pure Chem + Combined (Bio + Physics)
OR
Pure Bio + Combined (Chem + Physics)
OR
Pure Physics + Combined (Chem + Bio)
Sec 3 subject combination ? -
My DS is in Y2 IP and an “all rounder “. Last years he scored above 80 for all subjects (except HCL around 70). No specific dislike or like regarding Chem bio and physics and scores all very close too .
He is keen to take triple science but I’m worried about the workload as he also has an elective , which means he would be taking 10 subjects ! On the other hand , I wonder if it’s possible to go ahead since he is not taking Os and he enjoys the breadth of his education. Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Thank you ! -

I would support and trust him, if he so wishes.
