If you go to arts stream in Sec 3&4, you will not be taking pure sciences (probably combined Science is offered in most arts stream in Sec sch) and it will be harder for you to move back to Science stream in JC. The double Maths double Science (or triple Science) combination in Sec 3&4 are usually offered in Science stream only.

Having said that, some schools offer more combined Science classes as that subject is easier to score and getting higher grades for their students opting for polytechnic route after O Level. Having better score will enable them to choose more popular courses in polytechnic.

        I'm trying for this combi
        1) Eng
        2) E Maths
        3) Pure Chem
        4) Pure Phy
        5) A Maths
        6) Mother Tongue
        7) SS + His
        😎 Literature

It is said that this combi is an arts class. Will I still be able to go into sci stream? There is a sci class with the first seven subjects, so it's practically a sci class right?

So your school consider this combi as an arts stream - that is interesting cos other school will consider this as Science stream with Double Humanities. With this combi, you should have no problem getting back to Science stream in JC. As long as you have pure Sciences in O Levels, you will be allowed to take that pure Science subject in JC level.

One more question though, is it better to take bio or lit as my eighth subject? Why?

              Hi,

My DD is in Sec 2 and I need advice whether Pure History or Pure Geo is a better Choice.
She is very confused and hope to hear more from others.

I don't think there is such thing as better choice. Its more purely on where the interest lies in.

Both my children don't like Geog n much prefer History. However I heard that its easier to score in Geog than History. Don't know if its true or not.

Based on feedback from my kids, its more difficult to score for Humanities becos its very subjective n content heavy. However, my concern is that if you don't take 2 Humanities but just 1 and if you do badly for the 1 subject for O Levels, wont it affect yr L1R5 score becos 1 Humanities subject is required?
                  Hi

I've the same concern as you. My DS is is considering 3S/1H or 2S/2H.
Our preference is 2S/2H cos we're worried if he chooses 3S...then he must do well in the 1H as it is required in the R5. :?

                    Hi Everyone,

I have gotten back my results today and they are as follows:

                    History - 68 (B3)
                    Geography - 60 (B4)
                    English - 59 (C5)
                    Higher Chinese - 56 (C5)
                    Science - 54 (C6)
                    Math - 42 (E8)

                    Total - 339/600

The English and Higher Chinese papers were exceptionally difficult this time round which resulted in quite a dip in my results. My History and Geography helped to cover that patch. Passing my science came in as much of a surprise.

The above forementioned results are only Term 4. Overall, my English is around 67, so I am able to take English Literature. Higher Chinese also stands in at 64. History may be pulled down a bit and Geography doesn't get pulled up or down much. Science stands in at a fortunate 51 (Luckily I passed)

I have also submitted my subject combinations as follows:

                    L1 - English Language
                    R1 - Higher Chinese
                    R2 - History Elective & Social Studies
                    R3 - Pure English Literature
                    R4 - E Math & A Math
R5 - Appealing for Double Science - Chemistry + Biology; may go into Chemistry + Physics Combined Science instead.

Thanks everyone for your help 🙂 Now I'm just wishing for the best that I'll get the subject combination I want - and probably Double Science as well, mainly because I hate Physics and my school doesn't offer Biology in Combined Science

Sorry, I do not quite understand you. Your combi put up is a 2 Science 2 Human combi. If you drop the Lit in the combi and replace with a Bio, you are changing this to a 3 Science 1 Human combi. Is that what you want - to do more Science? Your O Level L1R5 will require one of your R5 to be Human, so if you are left with 1 Human, you must be very sure you can score very well in that Human subject.
