Aiya… the questioner said the DD likes history but don’t score well. And Geo score well but don’t like it. So history and Geo both works for the DD is some ways. So logically it will be between these 2……
maybe your son's Secondary Chung Cheng High (Main) school
don't offer any
Elective \"Literature\", together with SS ?
A lot of Secondary school boys don't like \"Literature\". Often, they prefer to choose (study) History or Geog.
That's why
u keep harping on (History & Geog), be it a \"Half\" subject that goes together with SS
OR
a Full subject, on its own ?
SS : Social Studies
However,
in other Secondary schools,
example (All Girls school)
in PLMGS (Paya Lebar Methodist Girls' Secondary),
1) the Lit Teachers in PLMGS are very strong, very good. The Teachers here have been teaching Lit for many years, to several batches of PLMGS girls. Thus, they are very experienced in teaching Lit.
Hence,
many PLMGS girls offered Literature, in their Sec 3 subject combination, be they take it up as their \"HALF Lit\"
or
as their \"FULL Lit\" subject.
2) So,
there do exist Secondary schools after all, that still offer Literature, besides (History & Geog).
If the situation for that parent is different, then so be it. That parent can pick the part of the suggestion that is useful to them and discard those not relevant. That is how gathering opinions from others work to me.
What you and I gathered from reading the same texts are different. We are considering different angles.
When you mentioned harping, it mean to talk about (a subject) constantly or repeatedly in an annoying way. This is the first time I offer my opinion to that parent in that subject. And I regret that it is annoying you. Pls try not to be affected by what others say, ok? It is not good for anyone in long run. And often it is misunderstanding. This case is a good example. And I never meant to annoy anyone.
Have a good long weekend 👍 -

When I advise my class on their choice of subject combination, I always ask them to weigh the benefits. One is their results. The other is their passion.
Hi, dd needs to choose pure humanities for her subject combination, either pure history or pure geography. She likes history and knows the content well but exam marks not great because she struggles with skills. Her geog A1, but she has no interest or passion and find it boring. Any advice which to take ?
Your DD's case is a classic example of what we love, we may not perform well.
I think to make it easier for DD, ask her if she plans to do anything History-related as a career. If her answer is \"no\", it shows that History is not really a passion but just a preference. So my advice is to choose Geography. Because it is not worth it to sacrifice her solid Geography results if she doesn't plan to do History in JC/Uni. I'm sure there are other subjects she finds boring as well, but because these are compulsory she has no choice. So why is Geography different? The main aim here is to achieve the best L1R5 points to be promoted to the next level. There she can afford to choose subjects she enjoys.
Someone mentioned the elective Humanities which is combined with Social Studies.
So an ideal combination for her is to do Pure Geography for results, and Elective History (weightage only 50%) for interest.
Do take note though, doing well for a subject in Lower Secondary need not necessarily guarantee the same for Upper Secondary, and vice-versa. Too many factors involved - higher level content, different coursework, different teacher etc. -

She is in IP so only pure humans, no SS.

Came across this YouTube video webinar on choosing Sec 2 subject combi:
“Let Teacher Teddy (Xuan Ming) and Teacher Tony of Blue Tree Education share their personal experiences / opinions and a rough idea of what subjects Secondary 2 students should choose for their [Sec 3] subject combinations.”

For IP schools that offer language art or even integrated math, when it comes to subject combination, will language art subject be combined together as a single exam paper or separate into English and Literature papers when taking the exam?

Which school are you asking for? It will be easier if you direct the question to the respective school thread, as IP schools are run independently.

I know schools like river valley or NJC? Not really any specific school. Just for discussion sake and I just want to know how it works.

I would suggest that you read up on these 2 schools in their school thread if your child is interested in entering those schools. As they are IP schools and are structured independently. Do attend their open house too!

Hi,
Hope this is the right place to ask this! I am wondering if my dd DSAed to a school, is there a way to transfer to another school if it is a non-medical reason? Thanks! -

\"If your child is admitted through DSA-Sec, they must commit to their chosen school for the duration of their programme. They are not allowed to transfer to another secondary school.\"
