Hi,
I have a daughter who is very strong in Humanities (75 for each Literature, Geography and 91 for History). She got 1st in 2013 and 2nd highest in 2014 for History. However, her Maths and Science are 62 each (they meet the school’s criteria of => 60 to go to express).
Unfortunately in the streaming, she did obtain the double Science and double Humanities and was given double Science and Elect Humanities instead. The reason given by school was that she was not the top 80 in terms of level ranking (based on English, Maths and Science or EMS) - she was 93.
We tried appealing for her to go into double Humanities for she is strong in that area, but the school was adamant not to give, claiming that there is no more space. They proposed another combination with Principles of Accounting, Elect Geography (no History!) and Literature, combined Science (without the Additional Maths). Even her Form Teacher tried to help but was turned down.
My wife and I are very amazed that the school would deter our daughte from taking pure History just because EMS. There are other students who may score slightly higher in EMS but are average in Humanities and they got into the double Humanities instead.
Please advise if there are any course of action that we can take to help our daughter?
Thanks! -

The school sounds very rigid. If the school is adamant, then you may have to consider changing school. Other schools may be willing to look at her strengths rather than just the EMS score.Hi,

Happy Parents:
Hi ! I'm Joanne , a physic and chemistry tutor. I had an ex-student who wanted to take triple maths (emaths , amaths and POA). However , the school did not have that combination. End up she managed to persuade the school to register her for triple maths with SEAB o level. However , she will have to study POA on her own (since the sch doesn't have a timetable cater for triple maths ) and will take POA examination in school .Hi,

* my ex-student did have a tutor to help her out with Poa. (She scored A1 for all 3 maths )
I understand how some kids have forte in certain area but the schools are not providing them with the best subject combination. Perhaps a similar arrangement can be done for your child as well . -

Hi. I’m currently thinking of what subject combination I should take next year when i’m sec 3.
I’m stronger in the science and math subjects, and weaker in the humanities area. I hope to take triple science next year however, I have many seniors telling me that triple science combinations are usually much more xiong than other combis (Much = ALOT ALOT ALOT VERY MUCH). Please help me on whether I should take triple science. -
Rabbits And Bunnys:
If you are weaker at humanities, you may find taking ore humanities tougher than triple science. Not everyone finds the same subjects tougher. My daughter has taken triple science these last 2 years, and she's managing fine. She is a strong student though.Hi.
