Yes yes, F Maths! My ds is already planning to take double Maths for A level though he is only going sec 3 next yearAugmum:
Apart from what has been shared by starlight n sieg, for those who don't like memorising, kindly don't go for Bio especially at JC level.
It's NOT only the memorising part of Bio...
Many pple perceive that so long u memorise the mountains of notes, u'll score...
But No...the Bio Essay questions which are very stringent in marking, many students simply lose marks on these...
In short, the amt of hardwork pile into this subj... may not translate to good grades...
If ONLY Further Maths is introduced 2 yrs ago...i think my gal would gladly choose that ... to replace Bio... After going thru it...
Will your boy consider computing science?
-
Unlikely, should be double Maths, physics and econs/ or Chinese
Jennifer, your DS1 is in J2 now? What subject is he taking? -
KTKS:
Why pick the less deserving PCM candidates too? They should be chosen for physiotherapy course.

How are PCM students less deserving of medicine? The requirements for medicine course is spelt out clearly in the uni website. Just fulfil the requirements and clear the interviews and all are equally deserving. -
Augmum:
Some subjects at h1 level are not easy going either.
Fyi, 4 core H2 subjects are alrdy very content heavy...H2 subjs are unlike secondary sch subjs...slmkhoo:
My daughter, the jack-of-all-trades, complained bitterly when she had to drop Geog and Hist at the end of sec 2, and is complaining again now that she is going to have to further reduce to 4 subjects! We just tell her that she's the odd on out as most people are happy to narrow down to fewer subjects. She knows that she can read up, but given how busy students always seem to be, she won't have much time except possibly during vacations.
i understand that the norm in mid tier JCs is juz 3 H2+1 H1...
If yr daughter is so passionate for another subj...she could still take it under 4 H2 + 1 H1, so long she satisfy the sch criteria, such as min GPA (plus other criteria if any)...
BUT very few students would choose this option ...
As it's NOT a wise choice...It makes more sense to reserve the 1 AU for a H3 subj, instead of a H1 subj...
Unless the student is really passionate in that \" extra H1 subj\" to go all way to pursue it...
I won't blame the kids for complaining that they can't take this or that subject in jc because they probably have little idea how heavy each subject is at that level.
If there is great interest, there's nothing to stop them fr reading outside their academic curriculum,if they realise they hv time.
Maybe at the end of jc, can review their complaints again. -
Maybe for those who has interest in more subjects could consider doing IB rather than A level?

Can't take triple science in ib either. I won't say ib has more subjects. Ib needs to do 6 subjects, including 2 languages, 1 humanities, 1 math, 1 science and another subject which can be humanities, math or science. 3 subjects at HL and 3 subjects at SL. Roughly correspond to A levels. On top of that there is EE and TOK. -

I understand your viewpoint. I am just confused why the course requirements are stated as such. I don't think this is a norm in most overseas uni. If one has a passion in medicine, why would he not choose bio in his formal education but of course you can argue that the realisation is developed only after his A level's. I just feel that priority should be given to those who has developed an interest in this field much earlier in life. For the other group, they may fickle and switch to engineering later?KTKS:

Hence they are deemed less deserving.
But I am sure my doubts had been addressed by the faculty committee (whatever you name it) before they draw up the prerequisites. -

For JH3/4, students get to choose either Physics + advanced LA, Physics + advanced Humanities, Physics + Biology, Biology + advanced LA or Biology + advanced Humanities.Unlikely, should be double Maths, physics and econs/ or Chinese
Jennifer, your DS1 is in J2 now? What subject is he taking?
Ah boy first choice is to take Physics + advanced Humanities, second choice Physics + Biology.
Chemistry is a compulsory subject (in all other schools as well ?)
The other compulsory subjects included: LA, MT/HMT, Maths (which includes A.Maths), Geography, History, Governance & Society (not sure if this is considered a subject, though it is listed as part of the curriculum).
My elder boy took Physics + advanced LA then as he was not interested in Biology.
Ah boy is not really into Biology, but if he is not offered advanced Humanities, the intention is to take Biology for 2 years, then drop it at JC1 for Economics.
Now that F.Maths and computing science will be offered by the school from next year onwards to JC1, we should keep our options open? -
How come this discussion has moved to A level subjects instead of Sec 2 streaming?

Because Sec 2 streaming is likely to impact the choice of A level subjects...How come this discussion has moved to A level subjects instead of Sec 2 streaming?
