regarding subject combination, it is IMPORTANT to do well for all the subjects in order to get a chance to choose than to be allocated a class and be miserable. hubby and I know she can make it for A math (N level) but she prefers to join her friends doing FCE (food and nutrition). even son is advising her to take A math.

I feel her preferred friends also will change during the time she goes to university or poly. She is likely to suffer for Choosing a subject just because of friends.

Is she strong in Maths? Will she need A Maths to do a course she is keen on in future? If she isn't, it may be better to focus on other subjects rather than spend a lot of effort on a subject she doesn't have an interest in. If she isn't keen on Maths, she may not need A Maths in future.

My older girl is not keen on Maths, and always struggled. So we let her just take E Maths, then H1 Maths (and she really struggled even with those!). When she got to poly/university, she chose courses that didn't require Maths, and we all heaved a sigh of relief!

            hi Janet,

if your girl is heading for Polytechnic Diploma in Nursing, she still need to pass either E Maths or A Maths

she can’t make it for ART.

anyway she should work very hard for this year end exams before she can decide which subject combination she wishes to take, although geography interests her more than history. son did well for both geography and history in sec 2 but decided to take history and social studies.

POA is a compulsory subject in sec 3.

Is it also true to assume that the better schools wills have to set more challenging tests/ exam questions than students from the neighbourhood school? like if a child gets A1 in a subject (neighbourhood school with express stream about 200), the standard could be only like estimated of a B? or C? in a good/ top school? just an example...

Not true, DS is in neighbourhood sch and I've met 2 different math tutors who commented that his sch maths paper is tougher than most schs and even tougher than some of the IP schs (for lower sec).....but I hv to admit that DS' sec sch has a reputation in that zone for being good in maths....so i guess depends on the niche of your child's sch.

I want to chill...but how to? she has to pass all 8 subjects and get at least 60 marks.
chasing her everyday to revise her history, geography and science.
next week, history 2/10...geography on 3/10, lit on 5/10 before math and science the following week.
