Anything. It doesn't really matter as \"business\" is broad. -
slmkhoo:
Simply put, just aim for the subjects that she can do well in.wonder mom:

How about the number of subj? Will taking the least no of subj affect your chances of getting into yr pref combi in jc? In my ds sch, majority will take 9 subj, around 10% taking 10 subj & another 10% taking 8 subj. i intend to let my ds take 8 subj only. Thanks.

One can take 9 or 10 subjects.
But, can cope or not, is another story.
At end of Sec 3 after End-of-year (EOY) exam, if a student cannot cope with so many subjects, school will re-assess situation, ask the student to drop those subject(s) student can't cope, or fared poorly in, so as not to jeopardize his / her chance of GCE O level results, or jeopardize the end of year (3 or 4) IP promotional (determination) results into JC1 (year 5) preparatory year for A-level. -

You only need 6 best scoring and relevant subjects to form the score for L1R5. The 7th to 10th subjects are irrelevant when computing the scores. Score is what gets you into JC and allows you to choose the subject combi. A handful of subjects (biology, A Maths) may affect the available options but usually isn’t a big issue unless you are aiming for Med Faculty or specialized type of degrees in university.
That said, the purpose of education isn’t just about the scoring but also about maximizing the number of opportunities to learn. A typical, average student should stretch himself / herself to cover at least 7, if not 8 subjects. Given that the majority of the students in your son’s school is doing 9 subjects, it’s most likely to be one of those top tier schools, with way above average students. You should consider allowing your child to do at least 9 subjects in sec 3 and reducing to 8 subjects in sec 4 if he can’t cope. -

Agree with this. Besides Medicine, most other science courses have some prerequisites such as Maths and sciences - if you don't take them at sec school, you can't take them at JC, and that will restrict university course choices. But that doesn't apply to business (though taking A Maths at sec school and H2 Maths in JC would be an advantage). -
Hi slmkhoo, floppy, phtthp
Thanks very much for your advice. -

If she wants to be a business woman or entrepreneur, ensure she is good in Math. Take double Math if possible. I always believe you must be good in arithmetic to be a businessman. If you are slow in calculations, you lose in negotiations.
Have some relatives who can't count but are very creative. They're always losing money in their start-ups. A lot of lofty ambitions, bought expensive fixed assets, invested loads on packaging and ID, but could not make profits.
Another subject she might find useful, albeit at 101 level, is Geog. Take a look at the syllabus,
https://www.seab.gov.sg/content/syllabus/olevel/2017Syllabus/2236_2017.pdf
She may find THEME 2 (Human Geog) and THEME 3 (Data collection & interpretation) useful. We don't know what she'll market or sell in future. But will be fun to have some exposure at 16.
(iii) Questionnaires – In human geography, consideration should be given to factors influencing the successful design of questionnaires (e.g. layout, format and wording of questions and the number of questions) and the conduct of the questionnaires (e.g. the sampling methods – random, systematic, stratified, pilot survey, and location of survey).
(iv) Interviews – This method should be used to collect in-depth information from a specific person or group of people. The interviewer should be reflective and take into consideration issues such as gender, experience and socio-economic status and also observe interview etiquette. -

If she wants to be a business woman or entrepreneur, the only thing she needs is to know how to employ the right people.wonder mom:

Everything else is irrelevant, including an education.
