Secondary 2 Streaming

janet88:
Janet, I am not sure if your daughter had made her choices or if the above list is your confirmed list.
compulsory subjects - English, math, SS, MT (thank goodness she is exempted).
elective - geography, food & nutrition
if she takes POA, then total 7 subjects.
although geography and SS are considered as one, there are actually 2 subjects.
it isn't mentioned that science is compulsory :?
the results of sec 2 streaming will be released on 2/11.
thanks for your advice, lego & Hercules.
You need to count SS/Geog as one subject (and NOT two). So, going by your above list, if you exclude POA, there are only 5 subjects (EL, Maths, SS/Geog, F&N, combined science). That sounds risky as you have to make sure that your girl passes well for all 5 subjects even though poly only requires 5 subjects for admissions. It is getting more competitive entering popular courses at the poly. You might want to consider getting her to take POA (or another subject that is of her interest/strength). At least with 6 subjects, there is a buffer as she can take the grades for the best 5 subjects for poly admissions. -

SS/Geog is considered one subject, Physics/Chem is also one subject.
there are 3 NA classes. one class offers 6 subjects while the other 2 offer 7 subjects.
problem is she is exempted from MT...which means she only has 5 subjects and that is risky. i'm feeling the jitters too. -
janet88:
Janet, if she isn't keen in Nursing, no point. How about let her do Accountancy, in Poly ?
she isn't keen at all.ngl2010:
I remember you said you want her to do nursing. Does she want to do nursing? -
janet88:
In that case, don't fret and get overly anxious. Look on the bright side of things. With one subject less, she can focus her time on these 5 subjects.

What does your girl like to do? Any interests/hobbies which she is passionate about? It must be something she enjoys doing (NOT what mommy wants her to enjoy doing).
Whilst I understand you want her to prepare for Sec 3, it might be a good idea to use the school hols to sign up for something she is keen in. The reason for suggesting is that, her interests/hobby might lead her to her career choice or what she wants to study in the poly. -
schweppes:
thanks so much Schweppes for your reminder. it didn't occur to me she would have only 5 subjects if she enters the class with 6 subjects. recently, she seems to develop an interest in cooking....but I don't know if it's a 三分钟热度.

if she is really interested in cooking, then she can pursue a career in that area. she's definitely not an academic person but we have accepted it. -

If you are really concerned, then best to highlight to the teachers / VP (as soon as possible) and voice your concerns that she has only 5 subjects. They might have overlooked that she is exempted from MT.

Every child and individual are blessed with different talents and strengths. We need to discover what those talents are and nurture. One way to discover is to expose them to different opportunities.

NYP & TP have a good culinary / F&B prog. Alternatively, there's also food sciences or nutrition diplomas in the poly if she is keen.
Your girl sounds like she has a bubbly and cheerful personality. Can even consider early childhood or psychology courses if she is keen to work with young kids. -
hey Schweppes,
you are right about her…she is like the Energizer bunny. can’t sit still and always up to some nonsense. son said she is born in the ‘right year’…the year of the monkey. -

If you can use this school holiday to bond with her & suss out what she can do with her strength & she agrees that's what she wants to do, I'm sure u wld hv helped direct her path.hey Schweppes,

Energy, youth 是她的本钱. That's when you'll see her flourish & see her grow once she's able to find her niche. Don't worry abt 三分之热度. Just keep building on it once u see a light of possibility. You can do it mummy Janet! 加油! -
hi schweppes,
I checked with her FT. he has highlighted those girls who are exempted from MT to be placed in the class with 6 subjects during class allocation. I’m so relieved and grateful for his thoughtfulness.
