I am not sure...emailed her form teacher because I couldn't take the suspense any longer.
So is it really need 60 marks to get promoted ?janet88:
I'm so happy and RELIEVED!
daughter passed 6 subjects to be promoted to Sec 3NA.
next, subject combination...hopes to take geography, food & nutrition.
he told me she will be promoted as she passed 6 subjects. I didn't ask anymore since I am so relieved.
secondary school is really no joke...even Art has preparation work and not just bring materials and sit for the exam :faint:
she started revision in late August for final year exam so that she has extra time for weak topics/subjects. it's crazy planning a revision schedule. -
Hi Janet,
Your daughter did well ! Congratulations ! Good job done. Next year Sec 3 so fast -
janet88:

I'm sure your girl is proud of this achievement. You've been so supportive helping her. All of your sweat materialized with promotion. :udawoman: Must relax & treat yourself well now. I sensed u we're feeling down last couple of days?
I was feeling under the weather myself & taken aback at how much chats I've to catch up this thread, MKS & ME TIME threads! -

She worked hard and got her reward, I think she (and yr family) will be more motivated to work on the math and sciences now.thanks lego.
this year really added A LOT OF OIL.
she cleared all her humanities subjects but flunked Math & Science.
hubby said he will need to ramp up this year end holiday. -
phtthp:
yes, time flies. I still rem she talked about the psle, seemed just recentHi Janet,
Your daughter did well ! Congratulations ! Good job done. Next year Sec 3 so fast -
:thankyou: ladies.
I can't believe how fast time flies (even faster than the 4 months since I moved).
not too long ago, I was still stressed over her PSLE...sec 1 zoomed past without me realising. maybe because there are 8 subjects to handle, so time passes faster since I'm busier. next year she will be in sec 3
hubby is still upset she flunked math and science...so he told her this year end holiday will be spent ramping her foundation, much to her dismay. to make things worse, POA is compulsory...so she has math, physics/chem + POA :faint:
she needs to work very hard. -
I think I am the opposite of you leh. DD will be taking her O levels next year. I am telling her there are 8-9 subjects but she does not need all of them to get into the course that she wants. Focus on the necessary subjects instead of trying to pass all 8-9 subjects. Of course English and Math is a must. No issues for these 2 subjects for her. Now it is a matter of drilling down to the rest of the subjects base on what she wants to get into, be it JC or Poly and those that she is stronger in. DD is taking 2 math, 2 sciences and 2 humanities. She is adamant about going to Poly instead of JC and she is leaning towards science related courses. So out of all the subjects she is taking we were discussing which to put all her efforts in. Her thoughts were Eng, E Math, Bio, Hist/SS, Lit. Her Lit grades are similar to her A math & Chem grades. I told her consider focusing on A Math as Math is a subject that you can score as there is no subjectivity or ambiguity. Chances of writing off point is low with Math compared to Lit. Moreover we are not sure what her school’s standard is when it comes to Lit. She may be getting As in her school exams but at national level, it may not be equivalent to an A.
Actually, I was just commenting that there are too many subjects in Sec sch. Why are the kids tested on so many things? Why can’t they be taught all these subjects but choose only to register and take the subjects that is relevant to what they want to pursue? Of course the basics of English and Math is a must but if I am a humanities student, why must I still pass a science and vice versa for that matter. -

Unfortunately, there are probably too many students who will not pay attention to non-exam subjects. And breadth is still important at sec school as it's very basic. I regret that my daughter did not take science in Singapore sec school as we were overseas. The science she did was so general and simple that she really lacks a lot of what I consider very basic knowledge. Not that it mattered to her in her academic progress because she is inclined to humanities, but just for general living. My other daughter had a lot to catch up in Maths and Science to join sec 2. As long as poly/JC entry doesn't require all 8 subjects, I guess it still works out ok. Most students, like your daughter, will focus on the key ones which they need, and do less work for the rest. -
supposing daughter’s subject combination are English, math, physics/chem, geography/ss, food & nutrition, POA.
if taking the poly route, all these subjects are important. -
Janet,
If your girl do POA (principle of accounts), is useful bec next time can do Accountancy Diploma in Poly
