Have you taken H2 Econs in JC before, phtthp?

I don't think it's true that you need Econs O level to do well in Econs A level. A lot of people only spent 1.5 yrs to score an A.

Last time (during my time, donkey years back), my JC had a lousy Econs Teacher. Also, last time there wasn't any Tuition centre in subject Econs. Not that I heard of, or knew of, back then.

      .zeit,

Based on today (current), do u happen to know which JC, has got very good Econs lecturer (tutor) ?

You should ask jtoh, Jennifer and slmkhoo. Should be the usual JCs.

Talking about O level Econs vs A level Econs, it's the same for POA. I rem Commerce students didn't need to take POA O level to score well in POA A level. And same for those admitted to NTU Accountancy; they didn't need to do either O or A level POA. I think most high scorers are very versatile...

Phtthp, your question actually piqued my interest on how other JCs arrange their teachings.

In DS's JC, for each subject (except GP), they have many lecturers. Each lecturer will specialise in 1 or 2 topics. For example, for Physics, teacher A will give lecture on Dynamics, teacher B will give lecture on Kinematics, teacher C will give lecture on Vectors, and so on. So, all students will receive the same lecture (one lecture theatre can have a few hundred students). And I can say that the lectures are all good because I think the teachers are assigned topic(s) they are very strong at. And since the teachers only need to prepare 1 or 2 topics to lecture, their preparation and delivery are usually very very good (I have peeked at the recorded videos that DS watched when he missed or wanted to repeat watching a lecture). The difference comes during tutorial. Each teacher will be assigned a few classes. So, if the tutorial teacher is not so good, then too bad...

What is the practice in other JCs?

          Hi,

My son is in the ‘O’ Level track and deciding on his subject combinations.
He is undecided to take 9 subjects or 8 subjects with the difference of one pure humanities subjects (Geography/Literature/History). What are your advice on whether he should take pure humanities.
          The 8 subjects are:
          Triple Sciences
          E and A math
          MT and EL
SS Elective + Humanities Elective (Geography/Literature/History)

          The 9 subjects are:
          Triple Sciences
          E and A math
          MT and EL
SS Elective + Humanities Elective (Geography/Literature/History)
          Pure humanities(Geography/Literature/History)

He needs advice since he is unsure of the additional work load/stress and seems to be quite consistent in humanities.
What are your advices on which Pure Humanities and SS Elective he should take up-Lit,History or Geography?

Maybe can try 9 subjects first if offered so that for L1R5 to JC, there is a backup Humanities. If really cannot cope after Sec 3, can perhaps drop 1 subject if the school allows? As for which Humanities to offer, perhaps see what are his strength and inclinations. Would Literature help him in his English ?

Based on today (current), do u happen to know which JC, has got very good Econs lecturer (tutor) : that really teach the subject content well inside the JC premises itself, Not ask (expect) students to attend external tuition outside, in order to do well at A level that type of lousy, lazy Econs tr ?
There will always be some good teachers and some bad teachers, and the assessment of good/bad is also very subjective. Although having good teachers is a bonus, a lot of the eventual grade depends on the students' abilities, motivation to work, eagerness to learn, willingness to ask questions, etc. I would say that the teachers in most JCs should be of a decent standard or they won't last long. In any case, in most JCs, there are students who depend on tutors because they say the teachers are not doing a good job, and others who score A's without tuition, so it's really hard to say which JCs have \"good\" teachers.

Are you sure Chemistry is compulsory at A Levels?

Sorry, not compulsory, only for those taking PCMX or BCMX subject combination, where X = one of the Humanities subjects.

To expand on this: Each JC offers a limited range of combinations, so some combinations will not be available in a specific JC, even if technically allowed by SEAB.

Chemistry is now \"compulsory\" when a student wants to take 2 H2 science subjects because Chem is now the most \"useful\" science (a prerequisite for many science, engineering, med courses). So few JCs, maybe none, will have a Physics/Bio combination although it is technically allowed by SEAB.

If a student only wishes to take 1 H1 or H2 science subject, it can be any of the 3 sciences, but will depend on whether the JC offers that combination.

                  Hi,

My son is in the ‘O’ Level track.
He is offering double humanities for his Subject Combination.
He has interest and do well similarly in Literature, Geography and History?
He is deciding on which is the less stressful to do well in and suitable combination.
He has to take Pure Humanities and SS
                  Please advice.
                  thanks.

He is deciding on which is the less stressful to do well in and suitable combination.
\"Less stressful\" usually means that one he finds easier and more interesting, and is stronger in.
If he equally good in all 3, then let him choose based on interest, or just draw lots, or throw a dart!

                    As other have pointed out:
History is probably the one that needs the most memory work, followed by Geog, then Lit.
Lit is the one that needs the most interpretation, followed by History, then Geog.
Geog is the most \"real-life\" and \"science-y\", followed by History, then Lit.

There is no definitive answer as it depends very much on the individual.

                      Hi,

My son in o level track is deciding on Humanities subjects for Pure and SS.
Which subjects, Geography, Literature or History, helps an benefit him in JC for the General Paper(GP) and Knowledge&Inquiry(KI)?
Can you tell me which subjects do students do well generally and the paper is less difficult for Pure Humanities and SS ?nationwide
He has interest and inclined in all three subjects.
                      Please Advice.
                      Thank You

I think I've answered the rest of your questions earlier. And I don't have statistics.

In response to your question above:
All or any will be helpful in GP or KI. Basically, he should read widely and think about what he reads, and have an enquiring mind. Exactly which of the subjects he takes at O level really doesn't make a difference.
