What about also taking into consideration the interest between the 2nd humanities subject and Physics?
Retrieving an old post.
Last week DD1 was telling me that her teacher spoke to them about subject combo for Sec 3 next year. I am inclined for her to go for triple Science after reading Slmkhoo’s post about the benefits of doing triple Science. However, my daughter has her own reservations. Girl was told if she does not hit overall 65% (in yr 3 / yr 4), she would not be allowed to take H2 level for Science in Year6.
So far, DD1’s scores are
Chemistry - A1
Physics - A1
Biology - B4
Another dilemma is, which 2 sciences to take. Girl’s favourite Science subject is Biology but she can’t score. She really hates Physics but got A1. How?
Combi 1 - triple Sc + first Humanities subject (is it E Lit?)
Combi 2 - Combi 1 minus Physics add 2nd Humanities subject
Whether the interest in 2nd Humanities subject < interest in Physics. -
@MP!! OT: Which subjects does yours intend to tackle? Mine will probably do BCME in Y5 (majority Y3+4 offers triple sciences; the minority offering double SC is cos of school regulations with regards to advanced modules in Humanities etcetera), since apparently can do a bridging module if PH is required for future U course. Somehow, BI is less stress inducing...

OT : jk jk , time to be serious ,SA2 coming .
why minority taking double sc, double humans? for my kid sch - this combi & triple sci classes is abt same number
But i think H2 level humanities of Geo, Hist are all v difficult (?) most kids i know are taking sci faculty too , unless the ART talent kids
Ph = physics?
wat is BI
OT: my intelligent colleagues in my work areas are the humanities people - my bosses are all humans major! :scratchhead: Econs, Hist lah, Eng & SS lah etc -

Logically speaking, I think we should just be practical about it. And yes, the smaller the final aggregate, the more options one have for further study.
Yes, this was a dilemma for my DD too, but in her case, she wanted A Maths but couldn't score. However, after appealing, her sch allowed her to take it. She is now in S4 and just found out she failed the subject in her prelim.
I think it's best to go with which subjects score the highest. We may enjoy one subject but doesn't mean we can get top marks for it. And for O levels, the smaller the final aggregate, the more options you have for further study.
Alternatively, B4 is not high but it's not low either. Maybe get intensive 1 to 1 tuition during the year-end hol and hope that helps?
Give up Physics and go for Bio tuition? Hmmm... Let me discuss with my DH tonight. -

Eng Literature is compulsory and DD1 must take up a 2nd Humans subject (either His or Geo).
So it’s either
Combi A: 2 Sc + 2 Humans or
Combi B: 3 Sc + 2Humans
According to DD1, she said her teacher has hinted the school prefers students to take 2Sc + 2Humans regardless of how high one’s result is.
My DD1 is worried if Yr3/Yr4 she does not hit 65% and above, she will only do Sc at H1 level and she will be finished!
One kind fourmer has PM me that my daughter will not be able to switch from Physics to Bio say at Yr4 if she’s doing badly at it. So I guess, our decision we make, would be a irreversible one. -

I hope I dont add to the confusion but if do Combi B, can you at the end of sec 3, after looking at the results of all 3 sciences, voluntarily disregard one Sc and as long as the other 2 hit 65%, then she can continue with the other 2 at H2? Cannot be they expect all 3 to hit 65% in order to do 2 at H2 right?
Sec 3, sec 4 allocation is not 50-50 or do they expect min 65% sec 3 and min 65% sec 4?
Am I making sense? Ignore if not making sense. -

[/quote]during recent briefing by Principal of Eunoia Junior College for IP4 parents seated inside St Nick Secondary auditorium in 2019 Semester 2 , both Principal (EJC) and Vice-Principal (Academic section, EJC) were present.
They stated clearly to parents that
to do \" H2\" A-level (Physics / Biology) @Year 5 EJC
- IP Year 4 students must score at least minimum 65, in that Science subject
eg.
your IP4 pure Physics must be minimum >= 65 marks, if want to do H2 A-level Physics @EJC
or
your IP4 pure Biology must be minimum >= 65 marks, if want to do H2 A-level Biology @EJC
during \"Question and Answer\" session time, one IP4 parent stood up from her seat inside air-con auditorium, asked Principal (EJC) -
\"Principal, my daughter is now in IP4 struggling, did not do well in Physics. She is currently taking double Sciences, plus double Humanities, Year 4 IP subject combination. Not Triple Sciences. Thus, is there any bridging course at EJC Year 5 for Biology, so that we can turn around the situation rescue, let her take H2 A-level Biology, instead of H2 Physics ? We know that Chemistry is compulsory \"
Principal (EJC) replied this parent,
\"Sorry, I am afraid that we do not have any bridging Science course nor bridging module, for Physics, nor for Biology, in Eunoia Junior College\" -
phtthp : useful info … the Ps have set the requirements known early .
align with most jc jae H2 sci cut off & low appeal success rate for competitive jc for those <64% cases -
@MP. OT: Minority taking double SC + triple Humanities. Tak tahu - school regulations are such that if you offer an extra advanced Humanities subject, have to give up a SC. Otherwise, Humanities are: (1) the compulsory SS(-lookalike), plus, (2) either History or Geography. Literature is part of Language Arts(?)...
Iirc, teacher was saying that H2 GE will talk about Water (though some IP already did Geographical Investigation on waters in Year1...)
To take 4H2s in Year5, ours is something like in Year4 overall >65% with the intended subject itself >55% (if interested, I need to check).
So, your kiddo will do Humanities? As long as there is interest, every subject is cool.

PH: Physics
BI: Biology
SS: Social Studies -
Most JCs will allow students who did not read Biology in Sec 3 and 4, to read Biology at Year 5, I thought?
HCI made it clear to us that Sec 3 and 4 Biology is not a prerequisite.
