Most JCs will allow students who did not read Biology in Sec 3 and 4, to read Biology at Year 5, I thought?

I guess HCI (JC Section) must be quite unique in this regard.
The prerequisite to read Bio at Year 5 and 6 is a B3 in Chem.

      Hi doodbug,

      How about Physics ?

If IP4 student @Hwa Chong did not take Physics before @IP (3 and 4) for two years, come to Year 5, allowed to take H2 Physics with zero background ?

      because
this IP4 student is doing IP4 (double Science, double Humanities) subject combination and had chosen Bio instead of Physics, however at end of IP4, did not do well in Bio, so does Hwa Chong allow switching over to H2 Physics in Year 5, instead ?

      Hi phtthp,
This subject briefing that I attended was for Sec 2 HCI parents.
IP4 student doing double Science double Humanities from HCI cannot opt for Bio instead of Physics. All IP3 and IP4 HCI students must read Physics and Chem. So in HCI IP3 and IP4, students take either Physics + Chem, or Physics + Chem + Bio, or Physics + Chem + Computing. Hence, there was no parent who asked what the Year 5 prerequisites for Physics is. I am not sure what the Year 5 Physics prerequisites are for NYGH and JAE students.

In A level can third Lang replace a contrasting subject like econs or humanities?

Yes. You can take, for example, Bio Chem Ma, and 3rd lang.

        3rd Lang at H2 level?

must check the JC first, because
not all Junior Colleges in Singapore offer 3rd foreign language, at GCE A level

          E.g.

If check St Andrew Junior College, she don't offer foreign 3rd language

this one, u need to check with that Junior College interested in, if they offer 3rd language at A level, because some do not. And even if some JCs do offer 3rd language, some offer only at H2 level, but not at H1. Need to check

also, depend on your child himself.
            Is your child taking 4H2 or (3H2 + 1 H1) subject combination, at A level ?
if taking (3H2 + 1 H1) combination, out of these 4 subjects, which is the subject he chosen (selected) at H1 ?

              Hi phtthp

I attended the Sec 2 HCI Subject Options talk, and this was in relation to choosing Sec 3 subjects.

It is compulsory for the whole of Sec 3 and 4 HCI to read Physics (no option given at all),

hence there was no mention on what the Year 5 Physics H2 prerequisites are. What was made very clear to all students and parents is that for Year 5 H2 Computing and Biology, Sec 3 and 4 Computing and Biology are not a prerequisite respectively, though it will be an advantage.

The Life Sciences Degree Programme at NUS (which is the undergraduate course for Biology and Biomedical Sciences) does not require Biology at H2 as a prerequisite.
              hello (IP3 and IP4) students @NYGH,

is Physics compulsory, for (IP3 and IP4) girls, since @HCI, Physics is compulsory ?

triple sci is also popular among kids who love Science esp Biology or aspire to be in medical field ( not necc doctors)

note : Pure History has more textbooks to study than Pure Geo . Also elective hist study Eu wars - germany, russia etc Pure Hist focus on se asia as well - alot to swallow. - info for parents n kids to decide well .. go n ask the sch senior, teachers now to get more insight...
                  Hi MP,

does your child intend to do Econs in Year 5 ? If Yes, don't do Triple humanities at ( IP3 and IP4 ), because Econs will replace one of them later in Year 5.

Otherwise, you end up studying so much just for 2 years, and after that got to drop, because Econs come in

On the other hand, if your child doesn't want to do sciences in JC, triple Humanities is fine. How many science subjects is he taking? Anyway, the Humanities subjects give good background understanding for Econs, and something learned is never totally wasted.
