For some strange reason, I can't find the computation of UAS on either the NUS or NTU websites. Here's one from Tampines JC:
https://tpjc.moe.edu.sg/partnerships/parents/parents-information-kit/university-admissions/
1) Is it correct : Uni entry is generally based on 3H2 & 2H1 ( 1contrasting subject + 1 GP or project work ? )
Maximum UAS is 3 x 20 + 3 x10 = 90
20 for each H2; 10 for the 4th subject (H1/H2); 10 for GP; 10 for PW
2) any idea abt H3 subject pts?
H3 is not counted.
edit to add qn:
the extra project work , chinese , 4th H2 - for what purpose, can't add points on top of Combi of (3H2+2H1) ?
See above.
actually Sec2 subject combi selection is quite impt - as it leads to A level eligible subjects combi and into uni pts entry
True, that's why it's being discussed here. -
Correct me if I’m wrong. I don’t think MTL can replace the 4th subject…
The computation of UAS with MTL is a bit different, but cannot replace any of the H1 or H2 subjects. -
H3 is and has never been counted in UAS for local university entry.
It is however part of a student’s portfolio if applying for scholarships, demonstrating deep interests in a particular fields etc. -

if you add chinese, you will have to convert the total out of 100 back to out of 90. You cannot replace PW, GP, or H1/4th H2 with chinese.
p.s. you can see my earlier post on how to compute UAS with MTL....

Oops - I've checked and you're right. I think this has changed because I am quite sure it was possible a few years ago.

I'll edit my earlier post. -
No problems
These local university requirements ah.... can change from time to time.
Not sure whether you recall, there was one stage, where for a few years, SATs were required, then dropped. Heh.
And many moons ago, MTL was compulsory and included in the UAS (my era).
Then in the past, there was no PW.
Oh well, we roll with the times lah

1) The H1 content subject doesn't need to be a contrasting subject. Your contrasting subject can be an H2.
thks for the info too , i vaguely remember the points.doodbug\" post_id=\"1935467\" time=\"1568605144\" user_id=\"13281:
GP, Project Work and 4th Content Subject counts for the same weightage, i.e. 10 points each, in the UAS computation.
The other three content subjects count for 20 points each.
The XXX/X are as what their titles say, Indicative (not absolute) Grade Profiles - gives you a guide on the cut-off grades.

2) H3 is not included in UAS computation.
3) PW is computed in UAS. All 4 content subjects are included in UAS as 3H2s + 1H1. If Chinese is added, it's recalculated from 100 points back to 90 and makes minimal difference to your UAS -

Very interesting that you don't need a pass in GP to enter local unis. I always assumed it was necessary because you need to pass MT for admission. You also need to pass GP to be promoted to JC2. I suppose the only course where it's stated that you need a good pass in GP is Law.MyPillow:
@MP. (1) iirc no need. An RI family member entered NUS Accountancy even though it failed GP. But have to check latest requirements......(1) think GP is compulsory to pass for general uni admission , unless special conditions
So if a A level kid get v good results in Chinese , can chinese subject replace Pw or contrasting subject for Uni pts calculation?
(2) if chinese can't be use - hmm... why need to take chinese in A level
(2) That's what mine says too! - to justify the refusal to study hard for CL.[/quote] -
Yes jtoh. She had aimed for Medicine, GP hiccup-ed, so couldn't; not even Law, no choice settled for Accountancy even though didn't like Maths at all (which became a big effort to study). But that was some time back; current students should check prevailing requirements.
