      A, B and C shared $372. After A spent 2/5 of his share, B spent 1/2 of his share and C spent 1/3 of his share, the boys found they had the same amt of money left.

      a) what is the ratio of A share to B to C?
      Ans:10:12:9

      b) how much did they spend altogether?
      Ans: $156

      I tried making numerator the same.
      2/5: 1/2: 1/3 to be 2/5: 2/4: 2/6
      Then taking total denominator 5+4+6= 15 units => $372 but couldn’t get the answer?

        Hi

        Amount left:
        A= 3/5 = 6/10
        B= 1/2 = 6/12
        C= 2/3 = 6/9

        So ratio of money share, A: B:C = 10: 12: 9

        Total number of units = 10u+12u+9u =31u
        31u = $372, 1u = $ 12

        Total amount spent
        = Total amount of money - total left
        = 31u - 6u x 3
        = 13u
        = 13 x $12
        = $ 156

        cheers.

          MathsGuru,

          Pls help with this Ques:

          1. At the Disney on Ice show, the number of men is 95 less than women. There are 124 more children than the total number of men and women. If there are 519 more children than men, how many children are there at the show?

          Thanks

              Hi

              the question is not set correctly. To get a unique answer, one possibility is to change the area of rectangle to 90 sq cm. If we use the area as given ie 94 sq cm, then there could be 3 possible answers - 75 2/3 sq cm, 77 sq cm, 78 1/3 sq cm.

              If 90 sq cm is used instead, then there is only one unique answer as shown below.

              cheers.

                Hi,

                Need help with the following question, it is not a tough question but I can’t get the model right, my model doesn’t seem to make sense.
                Many thanks in advance.

                Maggie had twice as much money as Leslie. After Maggie spent $32 and Leslie spent $18, they have the same amount of money left. How much did each of them have at first?

                    Hi

                    the question is flawed - working with the numbers given, Maggie would have $28 and Leslie $14 which indeed doesn't make sense since Leslie has spent more than he had - maybe he had overdraft 😄

                    To get a sensible answer, the question should either be changed to \"After Maggie spent $42 ... \" or \"After Maggie spent $32 and Leslie spent $14 ...\". I have shown below the model for the latter ...

                      Hi MathIzzzFun,

                      My son said that’s some problem with the question, I could not confirm. Thanks for your explanation, will get him to verify with his teacher.

                        Hi,

                        Pls assist in my son P5 questions:

                        1. Chester has a number of green, purple and yellow buttons in the ratio 1:3:9. When he had given away 10 purple buttons, 1/6 of the remaining buttons were purple buttons. How many yellow buttons were there in the box?

                        2. Adam and Raihan had $200 and $500 respectively. After each of them bought the same laptop, they were left with money in the ratio 1:3. How much did the laptop cost.

                        3. Samuel and Elvis have some marbles. Samuel has 1 1/3 times as many marbles as Elvis. How many marbles do the boys have altogether if Samuel has 48 marbles.

                        4. The pupils of Primary 5E were asked to wrap some presents for a CIP project. They were given 4 days to complete the project and they planned the following schedule:

                        1st day: 1/5 of the total number
                        2nd day: 10 more presents than the 1st day
                        3rd day: 12 more presents than the 2nd day
                        4th day: 20 presents
                        How many presents did the class wrap?

                        Thanks in advance!
