2010 PSLE Discussion

Have more confidence in the teachers. I am sure they would prepare the kids well for the new format.A newbie here!
A bit worried about the Science - looks like the format this year will be different from previous years. The open ended questions tend to focus on real applications/intsruments with questions simplified to the concepts. Any idea how to get the kids to get the gist and not get confused by the setup

My son will be sitting for his PSLE this year as well. So busy with supplementary lessons (3X a week!) and CCA, he hardly has tiime for anything else. On other days, he has tons of homework to finish. I saw him crying once, telling me that he's tired, after 2 hours of 'unfinished' homework. When I tell him to stop, take a break and watch TV or play some computer games, he will refuse as he's afraid that he can't finish his work and will get a scolding from his teacher. I pity the children nowadays. I don't remember having to do so much work back then.

yes science is going to be different this year. i started with this year portions interactions and forces from my pals guide .
be careful when giving the kids past year qs , as someportions are deleted for this year.
my sons school is now focusing only on CA1 and science will be taught after this. -

Unfortunately this new format is being discussed only this year, whcih means they have just a few months to prepare for the P3,P4 and P5 topics. As it is p6 is such an intense year! Anyway, its the same ofr all the kids .

Just wanted to know if there are any good books out there covering this approach...
i have a parent briefing for P6 in couple of weeks, may have a better understanding them

Sorry, I’m a bit confused about what the fuss is about… from what i understood, some topics are being taken out this yr, like solar system, machines, etc. But this is not an issue since the schools are aware and therefore do not teach these topics to 2010 P6’s at all.
Other than that, I presume all worksheets and exam papers given to our kids last yr at P5 are already be in 2010 PSLE format and pitched at that difficulty level (maybe not, but no one can predict what comes out from exam, right ?).
So is there anything else particular that I should be worried about for science paper this yr ?? -
What about difficulty level of English in 2010. Heard they up the level again though format remain the same. Anyone care to share the difficulty level of their school preparation on paper 2, such as vocab MCQ?

I think the science will be easier as a couple of topics are removed. They have lesser to learn. Just use the same P6 past years paper but cancel off the topics that are not required.A newbie here!

Hi
My son is in P6 & will be sitting for his PSLE . He is a very loving & nice innocent little boy. However, he is very disorganised & will just take a long time to complete his school homework. There is therefore, very little time left for me to really sit down with him to revise thr' the day's lessons & start preparing for his coming exams.
This can be very frustrating as we always have to 'rush' him in the evenings to finish up his school assigments. Hubby & I are worried for him but he is taking things in his own 'good slow stride'.
Anyone here has the same problem with your child & has managed to work out an effective approach to handle the situation?
Thank you. Hope to hear some sharing from parents out here.
Claire
