Hi,
my 5 year old is with Nafa arts, and so far she enjoyed going. Is the class that big ? It does not seem that big to me for the 5 year old class. -
Oh, btw, I dont think they accept 4 year old kids.

Hi,
Registration for 2010 is on 5,6 Dec. Any idea what is the best time to reach there so that my kid will get a slot. Heard that if you reach there at 8am, the queue is snaking… -
hi znzyzyzx, sorry i was referring to my son who is now 4 yrs old so next year be 5 years old. yes it would be helpful to let me know what time i should be there to Q for a slot for him. btw, when you send your child for classes at bencoolen street, where do you normally park? thanks!!

If you have not put your name down with them earlier on, I am afraid you would not get to register your son for next year class. My understanding is that they would only let siblings of current students and those who are on their mailing list register for the class.

I actually forgot to go down early to register DD last year. Was planning to be there at 9am or earlier, but ended up forgetting about it (happened to coincide with a lot travelling at that time and I probably lost track of time). Fortunately, I happened to pass by the campus around noon that day and boy, did I rush to go back to get the letter, etc. Managed to get DD in but there was really no option left in terms of class timing. We ended up with a Friday afternoon slot.
My advice is, if you don't have flexibility where timing is concerned, do go early. I have heard that queue starts quite early, so why not go early if you have time to spare. Be prepared to wait quite long though. Best to bring some reading materials to pass time.
Yes, the class is quite big, can't remember exact number (15?) but don't think it is 20. Anyway, there are assistant teacher(s) in the class, from what I have seen. I like the way the program is run. For Kinderart, I don't think the focus is on technical skills (DD was in Global Art before and that is really very structured and technical - like how to blend oil pastel colours). Here, they work on different media and use a variety of paint, pastel, markers in their art pieces. The objective is to encourage creativity and I hope in time to come, the children will indeed turn out so. Just my 2 cents. -
Hi znzyzyzx,
I am on their mailing list hence have received their invitation to register. That’s why I ask the questions of parking and whether the class is very good so that worth sending. thanks!
Hi Busymummy,
Do you think Global art is better than kinderart? cos Global art is really near my place. thanks!! -
Hi doraemon
It depends on your objective, really. DD was with GA for over 1.5 years. We let her stay till she finished all 4 books in the Foundation Level. She enjoyed going to the class (she likes her teachers and some other friends there), but as she is also with Nafa, we figured it is one too many. I would be able to tell you what they do during the 1.5 years but not beyond that. The class has 2 sections - one is on colouring with oil pastel and the other is on drawing with pencil. The latter is copying what the teacher draws on the white board. As for colouring, the emphasis is on blending colours to create 3-D effect, shadows, etc. The teacher would choose the colours and indicate the areas to colour by shading lightly in the pre-prinited drawing block. The children then work on blending the colours. If you walk into GA, you would be impressed by the works of the students being displayed. This was all that DD did in all 1.5 years. It is true that when she first started, her colouring was less refined (as she was barely 4) and neat, but honestly speaking, I can’t tell the difference between her book 3 and book 4, as quality of the work seemed to depend on her mood.
In comparison, Nafa as I wrote earlier, is totally different. You can’t compare the work that they bring back from GA with Nafa’s. It is like comparing apple with orange.
Not today, but perhaps another day, I would post DD’s work from Nafa here so that you can have an idea of what I am talking about. Hope this helps. -
Thanks Busymom! Hope to see the art work before 5 Dec which is the registration date for Nafa. I am in dilemma like many moms as so many enrichments to attend but must choose and pick the right ones.
So do you send your daughter to Nafa classes with your husband or on your own? my friend was telling me that best is 2 persons to send so that 1 can drive while the other send the kid to class as difficult to get parking there. If any how park then chances of getting fine is high…
