Raffles Girls' Primary GEP

reddiechan:
DD's posted to RGPS GEP programme. Thought I should be waiting for the school's letter that's supposed to come in mid-December (as in the info sheet distributed on briefing day), but when I called the school bus service this morning, I felt like I'm so late to do all this.
Anyway, found that Bibi & Baba needs 4 to 5 weeks to do that name tags as well - called up and also in RGPS forum thread. Thankfully can order textbooks online.
Don't worry ,you are not late at all.
For the name tags,if it is not ready, just go school without it until the tags are ready.
That what I did for my girl when the name tag is not ready. -
BBEwee: Thanks for the reassurance!

Went to buy uniform from Bibi & Baba yesterday. Not sure which colour PE T - shirt (Red/Blue/Green/Yellow) to buy so called in to general office to ask. Was told we can buy any colour - no restrictions. The colours only apply for fresh P1s.

About the SS project, I’m getting quite edgy about the ‘soft deadlines’ the teacher is always issuing. I thought the email and handout explains the requirements and deadlines pretty clearly, but DD’s teacher gives extra deadlines at very short notice and demands a ‘sorry letter’ for not submitting the complete requirement (which was never stated anywhere in the notes issued). I can understand about the intention of helping to pace the students so that they wouldn’t bust the given deadlines, but there should be a more structured way of issuing the ‘soft deadlines’ which felt rather ad hoc, unstructured, and seem to be more a spur of the whim rather than helping to pace out. And, ‘soft’ being ‘soft’ - I expect a ‘softer’ approach since nothing’s stated and expressly communicated.
I’m wondering if DD’s super blur, or maybe there could be quite a thick haze of miscommunication to work through. And now the 2D chart’s due next Monday, DD just said the teacher asked them to bring their work to school tomorrow to work on during their 2-period session, just today. Nowhere in any notes there’s anything stated on these extra deadlines, which creates more anxiety rather than having a guiding role. And then it’s just the first project. -
Err hey:) I’m a GEPer from RGPS. It’s pretty normal for the Social Studies teachers to give you early deadlines. Like this year for my portfolio, our draft one was in January. It is natural for a teacher to be angry if they don’t hand in on time ( although writing a parents note is also slightly ridiculous).

From my DD’s experience, the real deadline for SS stays the same and there may be little milestones before that date. Eg. Draft deadline, interview notes deadline, family tree plan is also drafted in class. There’s a lot of hand-holding and feedback from the teacher. It’s not just for SS but all subjects in general, that teachers emphasize quite a bit on a good work ethic.

Appreciate bern7789's and meekopeeko's comments. Guess it's become a little personal because of the sorry note requirement. So far, no issues with other subjects, except SS. Just sent in draft 2 today. Luckily in time not to have to write another note.
