      Hi
My boy got 7 points for O levels after deducting 4 points for Higher Chinese and CCA.
We are staying in Lorong Chuan/Serangoon area.
The following are the few JCs that we have shortlisted.

      1. ACJC
      2. National JC
      3. Eunoia
      4. Dunman

We initially thought of putting NYJC as the first choice, but cut off point was 6 last year, so chances may be slim.
Any inputs on the above JCs? We like ACJC, but we find it rather far from our place.

What is the culture like in these four JCs?
Does anyone has the A level results of these JCs?

      Thanks in advance!

If you like NYJC, you should just put. Like S1 posting, it’s merit before choice. Who knows, you might just get it. Given that there are 12 choices, you can definitely spare a few slots.

Just put the JC you want. I have a strong feeling NYJC COP will increase this yr and EJC COP be smaller

Seem likely. Ejc cop will be 7/8.

The lure of a new campus is usually strong.

              NYJC is 7 / 6 last year while EJC is 10 / 9. Wouldn’t be surprised if NYJC is 8 / 7 while EJC is 9 / 8 this year.

@ jtoh, It is not retained jc1, it is MI. The RV 4H2 is 10 raw points + each subject grade above B3. 3H2 +1H1. Then if the score is good, encourage u take H3. That is ridiculous.

                What do you find ridiculous?

If the raw score is 9 or 10, the students most likely not choose SA JC as the first choice.
Raw score 9 plus each subject has B3 above, this two conditions are conflicts. If the students can not give the chance to learn fourth H2, there is less chance to have the chance to qualify for H3.

On EJC COP, I think a lot also depends on whether MOE allocates/expects EJC to take in more JAE students this year as they are in a new campus. If supply of EJC places increase, then perhaps the decrease in COP may not occur / or be significant. If EJC JAE places remains the same as last year, and if new campus has appeal, then yes, COP may drop.

Imo, ejc doesnt seem to increase JAE intake as no news heard that its increasing JAE places.
So cop likely 7/8. Wa say!

While I do agree with floppy that there are 12 choices and you should probably put your dream jc as 1st choice. However, I would like to point out that JAE differs from S1 posting as the students are ranked per nett L1R5, hence there will be a lot more students with the same score. I knew a student who was posted to the 4th choice jc last year after having missed out on the first choice by 1 point despite meeting the COP of the 2nd and 3rd choice jcs.

In order to qualify to take an H3, you must be very strong in that H2 subject and prove it by scoring very well in the JC1 exams. H3 subjects are only for the strongest students. Why insist on taking it when your grades aren't strong enough? It's like insisting on taking HCL when you're barely passing CL.

I assume you're saying that to qualify to take 4H2s in RV or SAJC (I don't know which you're referring to bec you're not clear) you have to have an O level score of 9 points or better, and a minimum of B3 or better in each subject? I don't see a conflict in those criteria. Basically they're saying you must score an A1, A2 or B3 in all your subjects and your aggregate is under 9. Fair enough. They want to see that you're doing fairly well across all the subjects and therefore will be able to manage 4H2s.

The way the system works is, the standard is 3H2 for A levels. If you're capable and want to be stretched, you can take 4H2s. If you're even more capable you can take one additional H3. Not everyone who's a top student wants to take an H3.
