This is copy and paste fm newspaper…

'To give students more leeway to pursue issues of interest without worrying about results, the subject Project Work (PW) will be removed from the calculation of their university admission score, for the JC1 intake in 2024. They will be given a pass or fail, instead of letter grades. '

Under the new system, for kids born in 2008 onwards, since 70 points is maximum, then sit for
        ( 3H2 1 H1), will do. No need to aim for 4 H2.

Current students affected, born in 2008 onwards, are 2023 Sec 3 this year, the start of their Upper Secondary. Next year, then they do O-level. Still got plenty of time, for Principal & VP, to explain to them the impact.
        Hi phtthp
The new system affects those born in 2007.

          My impression is:

-This applies to 2026 uni admission which means 2025 A level candidates ie 2024 JC1 onwards
-there is no need to do a 4th content-based subject at all ( no need to even think about the 4th as H1…in fact probably means H1 content based subject is not offered anymore)

But as usual, bc potentially it can improve your overall RP if counted, many kiasu schools and parents will still do the 4th subject la.

            Under the current system,

Doing 4H2s has the advantage of using the weakest content subject to downgrade to H1 in the computation.

Doing 3H2s and 1H1, it is fixed, which subject is counted as the H1.

At the beginning of JC1, not everyone knows well which content subject he/she will have most difficulty with, as some H2 subjects are new, and others may be very different from secondary school in content and/or techniques.

Under the new system, if the 4th content subject is optional, we will need to see if it remains compulsory to read a 4th content subject.

Good point mentioned here. The 4th H subject is optional or compulsory to take for A level exam in 2025 is not clearly explained yet. If it only required 3H2s subjects to go university, it is certainly good news and a better option than going polytechnic.

An important point to note for parents with children born in 2011 and after 2011.

If your child has intention to go JC in future, please ensure your child passes PSLE and get offered G3 subjects. It seemed that those offering G3 subjects get a better chance to select their preferred subject combinations in JC than those who did G2 subjects in secondary. My own thinking. 😅 Correct me if I’m wrong.

Like last time when we needed only 3 A levels subjects but many would do 4, to have options.

If only take 3H2, still need constrasting subject?

But agree that most will still think taking 4H2 is safer, but really need to weigh against the time needed.

To differentiate, more will want to take H3??
