Thanks, jtoh.
Yes you can drop to H1 from H2. Usually at the end of J1, if you can't cope, the school will not allow you to continue with the subject at H2 level.Fairy:
Are students allowed to drop from H2 to H1? If so, at which point? J1? J2?
Both my children are taking 4 H2s, 2 of which are Sciences. I wonder if it is wise.
In the event that they decide to drop after June in J2, do you think they are still allowed to do so? -
I’m not sure about that Fairy. Depends on whether they’ve registered for the subject already for A levels too. Maybe someone with experience can share.

SEAB's website doesn't cover the details for school candidates, but for private candidates, the last date they are allowed to amend their papers is 30 June (http://www.seab.gov.sg/eservices/iERS/Registration.html). Registration closes even earlier - 25 March. I imagine similar rules would apply for school candidates, although your best bet would be to email the school/ SEAB.
I wouldn't be too worried about coping with 4 H2s - I know plenty of people who did just fine (including hybrid combinations). Taking 4H2s isn't necessarily a bad idea - it's probably a good thing if your children are thinking of studying overseas or applying for scholarships. In any case, it's relatively early in the school year and the J1s are still settling in. You can always wait until later in the year to evaluate, when you have the Block Test and Promos results in hand. -
JC1, have you all started on your PW?

Thanks. I have 2 kids in JC. J1 & J2. For my J1 child, I have not start to get worried. However, my J2 child is too busy with CCA and leadership commitments. I feel it's better to get an A for a H1 subject than to get less than A for a H2 subject. But that's my personal view. My child is adamant that its more important to learn more (H2) than to compromise on the depth and breadth of knowledge acquisition just to ensure an A.
I can't fault that, but......child not kiasu, parent kiasu. -
My JC2 said it should be better next month, after handing over the leadership position and some other activities stand down next month. In fact today the Science Fair was just over. So I think the JC 2 will soon be able to focus in their prep for year end exam.

JC parents
Would like to check if any of your kids had taken part or are keen to submit their poposals for this yr 2014 Youth For Causes....
Can share the journey of YFC for those who had experienced it ?
What are the usual problems do they encounter along the way ?
How much time (rough estimate) would be involved in implementating the whole proposal with fund- raising activities ?
Basically, i would like to know what (schedule n worklaod) to expect if students take part in YFC .... :scratchhead:
Good news for the interested teams....
The deadline for the submission of YFC 2014 proposal has been extended to Sunday, 6 April !

Hi Augmum, I pm you. -
bakababa:
Good luck to your DD! Hope she she'll do well when she sits for her 'A' level exams next year!Hi all. It's been a tiring 2 weeks plus since I posted. It's been all systems go in school and she has tons of work on top of CCA and PW.
Just an update, I hv enrolled my DD at The Cognitive Hub as I feel that the extra help that they give her, enables her to better manage her writing needs. She barely has 16 /17 months to be sharpened and to stay sharp for the 'A' lvl. She seems to be enjoying the lessons and her teacher. I like that there is exposure to global issues (which I feel our children lack) and challenge of her linguistic abilities (though she scored a distinction for 'O' lvl English). I may even send my secondary child there though I dread the distance.
Anyway, thanks for the advice given (I hv adopted some!)
Good luck to all.
