What exactly do they have to do for PW? What sort of topics do they get, and what sort of work do they have to produce? Report, presentation…? How big is a group? How much of the weightage is for individual vs group work? How much direction do they get from teachers?
Sorry for so many questions. My daughter doesn’t do PW till next year, but I’d like to have a heads-up! There wasn’t PW in my time. -

The topic varies every year. This year is on Influence or Competition.
Each group about 5 students.
Diff pw teachers seem to have diff expectations.
Dd got a difficult and demanding pw teacher. It makes pw her most difficult subject as compared to the other 4 subjects. -
zeemimi, I’m wondering if your dd and mine have the same PW teacher.

Hahaha. Maybe. Do the pw teachers take several classes?
Her friends from other classes had very chinchai teacher. PI so easily accepted. Hers was really sweat and tears. The group work also tough. Got thrashed so many times. :gloomy: such a difficult topic also. -

Thanks, but the info on the website is vague! Could you give a couple of examples of topics and what exactly the kids have to do? Like how much and what type of written and oral products? How big is a group? I'd just like to have an idea of what is in store.http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/program ... ject-work/

My DD's quite happy with her PW group mates. But that may be just her. She's easy going. Just few days ago, she was online with her group mates till the wee hours of the night to meet a PW deadline. I only realised when I questioned her the next day that not all the members went online that night. Some left earlier and one was absent. But she was ok with that as according to her, all contributed, albeit, in their own way. well, she knows better.I'm wondering how is everyone's DCs coping with PW?
After spending more time with each other, personal eccentricities are starting to surface. DD is learning to adjust to different personalities and working styles and that can be quite frustrating.
I remember my DS met up with his PW group mates 'very often' throughout last year. I complained a lot. But according to him, his group met up not as often compared to most groups. Towards the later part of the year, they met up very often to go through and practise the presentation.
So expect time commitment on PW.
A relative's child from another institution had different experience though. -

This example would have been shot down by dd's pw teacher. :yikes:
There are 5 in a pw group. -

It's difficult to gather everyone together because each have different cca commitments etc. Also some are night birds while some just can't keep awake in the wee hours of the morning, which makes them unproductive when they try to curtail their sleep.

So they have to learn to accommodate one another and try to contribute as much as they can within their own capacity. -
