I Can Read - Discussion

Hi,I have not send my children to I can read program, but have heard a lot from people. So far all positive. However, I believe programs like these should just be the kick start. Once the child is able to read on his/her own, you should spend the time in reading than attending lessons.
I recall my teething steps to get my 5yr old girl to read, it was a painful and long drawn 9 months. But her rewards, she loves reading and discovered her joy in reading. There are still moments that she might need help as she progress to more difficult books. Be There.
I am also signing up for my girl at ICR to try out. She will be in ICR stage 2. Hope she will enjoy the class and learn. My main aim is to help her in her compo and compre as she will be in P1 next year.
Any parents has comments on the Advance writing and exam skills from ICR? -

I think the AWES program in ICR no good. The reading program is strong but AWES is not. Shop around for this level. I choose LCentral first to see.
Many of my frenz have same opinions.

Yes, compo and compre very important at Pr 1. When my girl in Kindergarden, i never let her practice and enroll in any programme. That is why she scored so badly. My fault... I saw the teaching booklet in ICR, not bad.

No , my girl has not enroll ICR yet as the centre said they have only my girl in the list. They need to take in somemore students in order to start a class. Maybe i can bring my girl to LCEntral for an assessment. May i know the contact number for the centre?Hi Donkey
The assessment was good. I think LCentral quite similar to ICR because one ang moh also assess my child. The teacher show me the work books and they look good.
The teacher is nice. The class is small because the centre is new. The teacher suggest I sign up for the holiday program so that we get a \"feel\" for the place. Then if my child like we can sign up for next year. So all in all good, no pressure. My dd like the teacher too.
Will give the holiday program a try and see first.
Did you go to ICR yet? -
I guess its good to shop around. The number is 6463 6387. There closed day is Weds. See their website http://www.lcentral.net
I feel good about my decision to sign up.
Good luck! -
Hi Engkidz,
So have you sign up your kid for the Lcentral holiday programe.
Do you know what is the difference between LCentral and ICR AWES programme.
What is the cost range of the LCentral course as currently, i am still in the mid of browsing and deciding which course to let my child take. -
HI Monster Mummy
I think AWES in ICR is different to Success in LCentral. The feedback I got when shopping around was that LCentral is better for this programme. It's more alligned to MOE syllabus. Also I ask to see the materials and ICR said \"none available\" and LCentral show me.
I bring my child for the assessment at both places now and my child like the teacher at LCentral, not pushy, very welcoming. Also ang moh like ICR and the school is from Australia too. I decide to enrol in LCentral for the holiday programme because if I like I can continue, if not no problem to withdraw. I think the holiday programme is reasonable price so not losing anyting.
Did you take your child for assessment at ICR? I think the price of the programmes is quite similar if I remember correctly.

Hi Engkidz
Currently, my kid is with ICR programme. Therefore, i was wondering whether to let him to continue to ICR AWES.
So in term of ICR AWES, you do not know whether they are aligned to MOE syllabus. -

I have requested to see the material for ICR AWES. It is not like to ICR level where they have a decent workbook.HI Monster Mummy

But I think the material is good.
Will try out ICR first. Will post feedback when I have more knowledge of it. -
Hi EngKidz
Where is the LCentral outlet?Engkidz:
Hi Donkey
I was interested to read your post. I am also thinking of enroling my 10yo in ICR Buit Timah. My fren says her duaghter did well there in the reading programme but not so good in the exam skills lesson.
I shop around quite a lot and found LCentral. It is the same as Literacy Circle they just rebrand this year only. Someone told me their Eng exam skills programme better than ICR and I notice they open up in Bukit Timah plaza already. New centre, can it be good? I guess all the centre standard the same but I think I want to take my child for assessment there before I commit to ICR.
Plz tell me if u enrol in ICR and what you think. Do they do hol programmes? I think Lcentral does maybe this a good way to find out if centre any good.
