Hi, I think every centre have their different and it all depend on the teacher. I like to share my experience at the centre in CCK, HDB Centre. My dd still not good in reading, not able to blend words together when in K2. I got panic after the teacher’s feedback. I quickly send her to ICR, which is the nearest centre that I know. After her assessment, she was put in the beginner class together with those K1 & K2 children instead of the P1 level. She was also pick up by her primary Sch teacher to attend Reading support programme which can last for 2 years depend on the child.

Her teacher in ICR was Mr Aldo. I find he is a passionate teacher and conduct his lesson seriously, quite strict also. My dd love his lesson as he is also very funny. He will meet up with all the parent every last wk of the term and feedback to us of what he had taught and how the child progress. My dd catch up speedily with her reading skill and even able to spell without having to study for it. Mr Aldo said that they should be able to spell just by listening from the phonic sound of the words.
I like their curiculum and they were taught how to do comprehension and my girl able to tell and remember all the different grammar, such as adjectives, pronouns, etc. She also enjoy reading now.

With the help in Sch and at ICR, my dd can withdraw from her reading programme in sch after half a year and able to read all by herself by the end of the year and did well in class too. I had stop her lesson at ICR as since she is able to read, which is my main concern when sending her to ICR and want her to cope on her own. Mr Aldo also give me advice that she can stop her lesson for the time being and she can always join back if I intend for her to score well.

I heard that Mr Aldo had now transfer to the Marine Parade branch. Well, this just my personal view on this centre and the teacher. Every child also develop differently and whether the teacher coaching style suit each individual child. I still find that beside the centre, the teacher play an important role in influencing the child positively.

We are always worry if our child would met the right teacher, even in school. Some teacher dont realise that they could hv great influence on the children and the important to teach it right with passion. The only way is to find out more abt the centre and speak to the teacher in-charge. My dd is quite lucky to hv met a good teacher and the teachers in the reading support programme in Sch are great too in terms of helping my girl to build up her confidence. Really grateful.

              Hi,

I totally agreed that the children meet with the right teacher will enhanced their learning. My kids did benefit from this programme especially for the younger one. Of course, as a parent we also play crucial role in enforce and learning with them. As the children teacher also emphasis to us that the parent also need to revise with them after each lesson. But as we always emphasis some methods work well for different kids. So is also have to depend how we fit in the right learning methodology.

You are right! The teacher have their job and we parents also have to teach and nurture our kids, especially the right values. In terms of doing revision with my kids, well, it's really an uphill task for me as I had to use different approach to teach them. Sometimes, got to crack my head on what is the right way and method. I'm learning along with them.

                Cheers.

Yes, after working for years and I have to pick up learning so that can explain to the kids. But if we see them really achieve the learning results really feel worth it. 

I have a 6 year old that has been in ICR program for the past 2 years and he still can't read. Simple words like \"fast\", 'then\" and \"cannot\" is still greek to him. We are really worried about how he is gonna cope in P1 next year. We have never taken a day of phonics in our lifes and we can't help him with his phonics and blending stuff. Anyone has a better reading program to intro? Is the program at British Council better?

                      Hi,

I am not trained during my time but when I am coaching them. I will ask them to read loud for me to hear and I also learn along the way. May I know the child is in which programme. Maybe you would like to check krtc read in a week programme. Sorry can’t remember the course. I did see some parents take their kid out of ICR and put them in this programme. Actually, there are also some centre got phonics classes. Maybe can check individually. But first maybe you would like to talk to the kid and teacher to know why the kid is not progressing.
