I have never heard of third language at primary level. Anyone taken before? I guess it will have to be done outside of school through private tuition or enrichment centres.

Primary? I’ve not heard of it yet.

But in secondary… sad that my kids results are just average and my daughter has a keen interest in malay language because she feels that it will be easier to communicate with the malays in malaysia and some friends around her. But sadly, core subjects will have to be taken care of before these electives…

think thrice taking electives subject because core subjects are really important.

What does 'Eligibility to apply for approval to study' mean

            S1 options form says

            Third Language

            Category 1: 09 : Malay( SPl Program)/10 - Chinese(Spl Program)
            Category 2: 56 - Arabic /58 - Bahasa Indonesia

Are all Express students offered to study third language?

BTW, My DD got 240 with A* in both language, still low to get to good school.
does it help to get to good school if you opt for third language.. Need input from parents..

It means your DD’s result qualifies her to pick one of these 2 as her 3rd language.

If the school that your daughter is eventually posted to, does not offer the 3rd language that she picks, she may have to go to another school for classes. So if you are keen, you should check out which school offers the 3rd language she is interested in first.

Thank you lizawa .. i was looking for these exact details. SO it doesnot help in any way to increase the chances of going to good schools... i mean you don't get any discount becasue of this qualification & it also doen't impose any resstriction of choosing the school( you just have to go to other school)

                Thank you again for insight

                  Hi all,

My DS gotten his PSLE result and was offered 3rd language for Secondary School 2010. He is eligible for the following languages:

                  a) Malay
                  b) Arabic
                  c) Bahasa Indonisa
                  d) French
                  e) Japanese
                  f) German

He is confused with which langauge to take for his future endeavour? Any suggestion?

Any kind advise is very much appreciated.

                  Thank you.

I am the same situation. However, can i choose not to take 3rd language at all, because I am afraid it may add to the heavy load of work?

                      Vikaesh
off course u can, it's not compulsory, my gal also not interested in 3rd language, btw, her T-score is the same as yrs. (so co-incidence)

Vikaesh, you may want to consider 3rd lang. If you can’t cope, then drop it along the way. After all, first 2 years should be ok. So why not learn something even if it’s for a term or 2.
