All About T-Score

atutor2001:
Now that you have estimated T score, it is about time to look for a school that fits this. Please go to this site http://app.sis.moe.gov.sg/schinfo/SIS_AdvSearch.asp, just key in the score in the last box, a list of suitable school will be shown.
The estimated T-score will be:tutormum:
Using the formula together with highest possible scores and lowest possible scores, I've got unrealistic results. :? Can you please help me as I'm dumb in this. PLEASE, PLEASE, CrazyDad
What will my son's score be if he gets:
Maths 88
Science 80
Chinese 80
English 80
CL - 52.0
EL - 56.4
M - 77.8
Sc - 60.8
Total : 247 -

just as what atutor2001 wrote:Hi All,
Base on the feedback from all parents and using the result from 2007. 2007 PSLE is pretty similar to 2009; very difficult math, easy Chinese and some tricky Science questions.
I have estimated the parameter to calculate the T score as followed;
CL: Mean = 78, StdDev = 10
EL: Mean = 73, StdDev = 11
Math : Mean = 63, StdDev = 9
Sci : Mean = 67, StdDev = 12
:xedfingers:
Oh my ...!
Those who score 100 for math will get a T-score of 91.
hi crazydad
Yr data/formula seems can't work leh.....
a T-score of 75 is already seem non existent, not to mention 91
anyway, thks for making me happy for a while as when i calculated my gal's maths based on the above, i got 80
can u look at yr formula again, to see where goes wrong....thks -

Can you share exactly how you come out with the mean and std dev?Hi All,

@ Augmum,
if the child get 100 for his maths, then the formula according to crazydad will be....
50 + [ 10 (marks - mean) / SD ]
50 + [ 10 (100 - 63) / 9 ]
50 + 41.1 = 91 -
hi Ogima
that’s what i mean…, hope crazydad can enlighten us. -
My son took 2007 PSLE. Solved all the tough math questions made him scored 260 with only two A* (M & S).

emerald:
As a guide, could some experts come up with a list showing the approx. PSLE score range against the estimated average score per subject.
Agreed with emerald. In fact I've posted earlier that the best 'guestimate' is to compile a list of past P6ers' T score against their rough average score at P5 - P6. -
i did not know that 17% of cohort failed maths exam in 2007. sad isn’t it? the kids put in effort in all 6 years only to fail the exam…sigh… hope this year if lesser or no kids fail the exams…
-
Thanks CrazyDad for the information. How do you know so much?
Anybody knows what happen to those poor kids who failed? MOE should have taken this into account before setting this year's papers. :x Seems like they keep raising the bar no matter what. -
Ogima:
That is why in year 2007, top student get 294, did she get a total of 392 for 4 subjects? very unlikely. I guess the reason is that she score well in Math and Malay where T-score for 100 marks are high, very high.Yr data/formula seems can't work leh.....
