DD also likes school, saw her timetable very busy, comes home later than other classes in most days, so hoping she choose a cca that is not so hectic one.. Not sure if they can cope with so many subjects.

Haha, so end up shecwill be charcoal also lah…

My girl is interested in Choir. I thought it may be boring and not much to learn. Does it take up a lot of time? what’s the CCA points prospect?
Any advice? -
stsl:
Haha nope. I'm from another school. Just trying to help abit. Actually, every single cca is good, as long as he/she is willing to put in time and effort into it. And regarding the changing CCA part, it is not really advisable as from what i know, your CCA points will be resetted, no matter what CCA it is. Best would be for him/her to choose by themselves as they will have to stick with it for another 4 years.
Many thanks, Blablah. Wondering if you are from CCHS and it is good to see that someone can give some advice to all sec 1 and their clueless parents.blahblah:
St john is a cca that teaches you first aid, discipline, and builds teamwork among their members. They will also attend many camps, some of which are leadership camps. At least for my school, it is organised mostly by the seniors and teachers aren't really involved in it except that they occassionally drop by to see.
Girl guides is quite a relaxing cca compared to the rest of the ugs such as ncc, npcc. Check out http://www.girlguides.org.sg/
Npcc is quite a good cca since you learn a lot of stuffs others won't really get a chance to try. Check out http://www.npcc.gov.sg/
So, can I say that it is fair chance for any uniform group to get good CCA points compare to club and societies since they basically engaged in many actiivities, DD is now quite interested in NPCC, just wondering if it will take up 2 days of staying back in school and long hours of marching?
Guess next Saturday, the CCA day, we would have to check it out at different CCA booths and consider properly as I heard that you are not allow to change CCA if you join UG. -

However, if you change CCAs out of Band, NPCC, NCC, all your CCA points will be resetted to 0. This does not apply for other UGs. However, I strongly advise against changing CCA because you may have to reset your CCA points (for the above-mentioned CCAs), and it reflects pretty badly on a person to change CCAs just because he/she just detests his/her CCA. And yes, the best idea will be to let your child decide his/her CCA and encourage him/her to stick with it for the entire 4 years.

Personally, I would suggest Scouts/Guides. Scouting and Guiding in Secondary School is TOTALLY different from that in primary schools. You can trust me on that. NPCC is quite interesting too. You learn a lot from these CCAs, like outdoor cooking, survival skills, map reading and geography stuff, foot drills, physical training. It's really all rounded.
Good luck to your DD/DS in getting into the CCA of their choice
