this time, i added some huai shan, bei qi, and wolfberries....
remove red dates fr my usual recipe as my gal feels \"heaty\" recently.

Yes, he shou wu is bitter.
The addition of black beans and some red dates helps to sweeten the soup.
So wanna to try it out ?

Recently I tried out this soup.


winter melon
small dried scallop
red dates
barley
pork ribs

My children love it. They don’t like to drink barley water at least now I can get them to drink from the soup.

i boil soups very often....as my gal n hub both luv to have their meals with soups...esp hub, being a Canto....

Oh ya...u have 2 boys....i also not too sure abt the above soup suitable for boys or not.....
But am thinking since this soup does not contain dang kwei ...think shd be alright...
As ginseng (american ginseng), huai shan n wolfberries...these herbs are quite neutral....
Ginseng is known for its increase of physical and mental energy, counteracts fatigue without caffeine n stimulates the bodies' immune system....
But dont drink on the night before exams, afraid too stimultating....may have problems falling asleep...

Sometimes, i replace ginseng with dang shen (党参)....plus some other herbs....

If u are worry, suggest replace the black chicken with normal chicken....and try with smaller amount of herbs....
