[Ang Mo Kio/Bishan/Thomson/Toa Payoh] Preschools

As you may have seen in my previous post, I had sent my son to MFS in Bishan last week, the first week of school to attend K1. It was kind of disastrous, sad to say. And now my boy ends up averse to going there and I have to call up his previous cc and luckily there was one vacancy left for me to transfer him back to old cc.
Why disastrous?
1) His teachers did not come on the first week of school last week. The teachers will only come from 2nd week, that is today which is too late as damage is done.
2) He was put together with the nursery kids whom he did not have any interest in their play. Temporary helpers were deployed to his K1 class.
3) The school in this MFS is too new. The teachers only get to know each other today on their first day of deployment to this school. So are the other helpers and teachers already here who have no camaraderie yet.
4) The principal as one of the parents here who have mentioned in another MFS thread, is not very warm and probably she is also too new to give her the benefit of doubt.
5) There are too few students, only 4 in the morning last week, and 3 are supposed to come in the afternoon whom I do not know if they really come as we have already fetched our son back
This morning, I have withdrawn my son from the centre, and to add things worse, he was crying when he was brought to the old cc, as he felt too embarassed to go back after what everyone thought he had withdrawn. Poor boy!!
So this is the lesson I have learnt. Never put your child in a too new environment. Better to put in one where the system is in place and teachers have already forged lots of good bonding with each other. -

Sorry to hear abt what happ to your DS.. I believe he will be better after a few more days in his school.. just need time to adjust and adapt.
I eventually placed my DS (also K1) in an \"older\" CC instead of MFS.
On the 1st day, I had a hard time with him, he refused to go in, said this school is \"not nice\" - he made that comment because he had wanted to go to MFS becos it was newer and many more toys!
Anyway so far he is doing ok in the sch and I am pretty satisfied with the teachers there. Maybe because it has been around for years, at least I feel the school has a structured curriculum and experienced teachers. -
Hi ilovechubby!
It seems like our kids are in same Primary sch and almost the same cc too!
Yeah, my son was initially ok when he goes MFS for the first 2 days. Subsequently they put him together with the nursery group and that was a grave mistake. And with no K1 teachers around, the experience in the cc for the first week went into a flop.
Yesterday i went to pick my son up in his old cc, he was happy and apparently his shock, embarassment and confusion in the morning had subsided… and i am greatly relieved! -

My kid is also in Bishan 153 MFS.
Like you say…its too new, teacher are mostly foreigne talent too. Principle are new and does not seems to control the teachers well.
My kid come back frequent with injury too…
And everyday when he is back, I ask him what have you learn…he can’t answer me…
He use to be from another MFS which is far better…regret transferring him over here…
Anyone can recommend me a better sch to move him to…should be K1 now…but still seeing him hanging out with smaller kid… -
Hello everyone,
I am new here. Would like to check if anyone has their kid send to any of the schools, My first skool, Licdo or Discovery Garden? These school are around YCK area. Please share your feedback.
I have shortlisted these schools, going to make a trip down to have a look. But would appreciate if any parent can share their past experiences with any of these schools?
Thank you. -

Hi Singmyway,
There is one near Bishan, its at Braddell Heights Estate, 6 Muswell Hill. The cc name is Brainy Kids Schoolhouse, a Montessori school. My son is studying there now and there school bus is available. You may want to try giving them a call or visit their website, http://www.brainykids.com.sg. I had my registration fee waived off and free 3 months trial for English Speech and Drama. Hope the offer is still available. -
hi everyone,
i’m deciding between Our Junior Schoolhouse and CherieHearts(Kids at play). Both are located in Westlake Avenue.
Does any parents here have their child enrolled in either of these 2 preschools?
Hope to hear some feedback.
Thanks very much in advance. -

I'm also considering these 2 preschools for N1 2013 enrollment and will be visiting Cherie Hearts tomorrow. Might do the same for Junior Schoolhouse.
Are you looking to register for N1 2013? Have you gone to take a look yet? -
Hi Meowniu,
My son is in LiCdo Schoolhouse. Its a small cc with private garden and playground. What I like about the school is it’s small teacher child ratio, emphasis on character development and bilingual teaching. You can check out their website.
I saw pg 47 also have a comment on the sch. I agree with her, that being in a small school, allows greater opportunity for the child to blossom. I can see how my son (K2) come back from school recently and said he wanted to learn new words (encouraged by his class teacher). I can see in him a keen and independent learner and more importantly interacts well socially. -

How much is the monthly fees after subsidies (full time working mother)?
How many children are there in the N2 class (born in 2008) at present? -
Sorry, my son in K2, not sure N2...abt 5, 6 or 7. Its a small sch..the principal mention before that ratio will be small. U can call them , check their website for details. type \"LiCdo\" to search..it should appear.

I strongly recommend Totsville Pre-sch. I seen significant improvement on DD2 reading after 1 term, she is able to use the sounds learnt to decode to read new words. As compared to DD1 who went thru MFS k1-K2 program she learns much more just for 1 term. dd1 still struggles with decoding on her own at P1. I regretted putting her at MFS. Totsville teachers are more than just teachers doing their job, they care for the kids n go beyond their duties to help.

Although my DS is attending only weekend enrichment at Totsville, I hv to say Teacher Serene (who is the founder) is a very passionate and dedicated teacher, always ready to provide feedback. It is pretty rare to see such a down-to-earth and humble founder.
I got to know abt this place via KSP forum (under page 19…35…of this thread) …
Didnt regret my decision to put my DS there, who is also enjoying his weekly session very much. -
Dear parents,
Please support petition to MOE Minister, to regulate pre-school fees.
We need more UNITED STRONG voices. Stand up and fight for our children, fight for our future Singapore.
If not, there'll be an uncontrollable escalating hike rates in PCF and all other kindergarten school fees. The fees will only keep increasing upwards.
