      Porky Pig:
My DS is in Sec 2 now and is keen to pursue his interests relating to Aerospace Engineering or Aeronautical Engineering. May I ask which Poly is the pioneer or best in this? Also which are the key subjects that he must score well in order to be eligible?

      PP,
I asked a similar qn earlier and it seems SP is offering such courses related to aviation.

        PP,

I was surfing for more information in order to help DS out and I discovered that both SP and TP offers courses relating to Aerospace and Aeronautical. Just that I wasn't clear about the difference, the entry requirements and the prospect. Need to find out more.

Not my area of expertise, so can't get you a true picture.

The best advice I can give is to encourage parents and the student to visit the Open House/JAE and talk to the students and lecturers at the respective polys directly. That is the best way to gauge the subtle differences and the right fit between the student and the school.

So, if you know that your son has a keen interest in aerospace/aviation, then head to the polys offering these courses and focus your attention and time on that. U can do this when you boy is in Sec 4. If his interest is still there, can apply for DPA (direct poly admission, similar to DSA)

Think must do well in Maths and Physics. Best to check to make sure.

Thanks Sista Schweppes. I will try to make a trip to TP first to understand more as it is nearer to my place.

If L1R5 net 13/L1R4 net 9 should go JC or Poly?

                Very hard to answer this.

What does the student prefer? Or where does his interest lean to? If interest leans to poly, then must also decide in which particular area/courses?

                Must also consider:
                - learning style (bookworm type? hands-on learning type?)
                - strength in languages (EL? mother tongue?) if want to go JC

Style : Lazy to the max, doesn't read at all
Strength : C5 for EL and B4 for MT. A's for both Maths & Sci.
                Preference : No idea!

                  Dear Parents,

Sorry to hijack this topic. Republic Poly is organising our final Parents' Talk tonight. If you are interested to find out

                  - the process and procedure of joint admission exercise (JAE)
                  - how to maximise your chances for the JAE
                  - course counselling

                  Do register through: http://www.rp.edu.sg/parents-talk

At the same time, we are happy to inform that RP, like our sister polys, also offers aerospace and aviation management diplomas. We are the first poly to have an airplane hangar facility. And the first poly to have an aerodrome simulator (and possibly the only Institute of Higher Learning in SG to have it).

All students are required to go through internships. To quote aerospace and aviation management diplomas as an example, students could be serving their 4-6 mth internships with our industry partners, such as Changi Airport Group, Jetstar, Pratt & Whitney, Boeing, Singapore Youth Flying Club (pilot license) and many more.

Have a good day everyone, good luck in your search for the ideal course for your kid(s), and once again, apologies for hijacking this forum topic.

Does the course intake means the bigger the number, the more popular the course is?

Need help here :?: In order to have a higher chance to get into a Poly via the Direct Admission, what should the individual subject results be like and what is the difference between DSA and JAE? :thankyou:

I need some info on the criteria for going local Uni via Poly. Is the criteria same for all courses? I heard those in the top 20% - 25% are then eligible to apply. Is this % within each course or the whole cohort? What is the successful rate of poly student admitted to local uni ?
