Secondary School CCA

Thanks phankaoLynn2010:
Another note, eg. even if you do not have Leadership pts, it is possible to get maximum pts in other areas and obtain a distinction in CCA.
I only know it's possible to get distinction for choir CCA bc my dd was in choir in sec school. She went for 3 competitions (overseas + singapore), and was assistant section leader by end of sec 2 and section leader eventually. And she got distinction, which was a grade that was already confirmed by beginning of Sec 4, I think. She didn't even need to do much CIP bc it seems that those CIP hours she'd earlier put in in lower secondary didn't have all that much impact on her final grade as her CCA involvement was more significant.
JUst sharing for Tisha's sake, lah.

Yes you are correct. Therefore, like what phankao say, if a child has a lot of Leadership pts (max 12) plus others, then you may not need CIP.Lynn2010:

Ok, thats good to know, which means no need to gain points under each of the LEAPS.
If you want more info on LEAPS and pts for each category, i can post it here. Some students can obtain A1 in Sec 3 already and the pts earn subsequently in Sec 3 or 4 is just quite useless, you go for CCA for the sake of CCA and no longer for pts. For self development. -

Lynn2010, could you advise on the points here, please? Or point me to where I can get more info on this.
Tried asking the school ic of CCA, was taken aback when he said if want to get A1 or A2 for CCA, join uniform groups. Clubs & societies won't get you the points. But when I checked with teacher IC of the clubs, they told me no problems in getting distinction if they rep schools in competitions. So a little clueless here. Would like ds to join cca based on his interests, but need to be realistic also as it is all about points/merits in our educational system  hence need to strike a balance. I for one do not believe in just studies and studies, students need to learn other skills as well.
Thank you so much in advance

Hi Bbee, if you do a google search on "LEAPS system cca points", there is an MGS pdf that did a comprehension explanation.
Just to share - My dd was in Club initially and i was so worried that i asked her to join 2 CCA another performing arts. Though she did, after some calculation, she would have got enough pts to score distinction if she did not join the performing arts. Now my dd2 in Sec 1 joins a Club. -
Just to add, there should be enough opportunities for a student to obtain enough pts unless the student just did nothing and earn attendance points, skip every opportunity for competition and school representation.

Many thanks for your advice, Lynn2010.
Sure, will google Leaps to find out more about the points system. -

Ds' school allows only one cca and needs to attend the same cca twice a week. So, Uniform groups are out. Imagine marching and marching twice a week....kiri kanan kiri kanan...........unless you are passionate about it, otherwise ...... at least for me, I know I will get nightmares over it

Many students don’t join UGs stating that it is tiring, tough and whatnot.
But I’m from a UG, Girl Guides. Admittingly, GG is not as strict (but still strict) as NPCC or NCC, but I don’t find anyone complaining about the strictness.
I love being in a UG, it is a fresh new experience, and I feel that the experience of being in a UG for a year alr made me a better person. I feel more responsible as a person and also more respectful. A UG maybe tough, but honestly GG was my third choice, but in my heart it was always my first. A UG isn’t that bad, really. Many people of my UG chose GG as their first choice. UG is actually a really enjoyable cca. Many students are scared off by the high level of respect that the UG will command (like not allowed to communicate as friends to the seniors) and also footdrills. But I love footdrills. I love camps. I love the things that I do in my cca. It may be tough alright, but once you’re in it, and your mind is open, then you should be able to enjoy your cca.
I have friends who entered NCC because their other choices were all rejected, but they love it now.
UGs are really, not bad. -
Hi everyone, may i know what’s the criteria to join NPCC ?
