By the time our DD go to JC,, these rules will be scrapped. Affliation to secodnary will also be gone...I heard PLMGS is only awarding 20 points more to affliated students fromnext year & thus scrapping afflitation...tutormum:
Personally, I detest the idea of affiliation. All PSLE students should be given an equal footing based on their results to get into their dream schools. Affiliation gives students from affiliated schools an unfair advantage over their peers cos they do not get posted based on merits.
Students from Victoria schools also receive an 'unfair' advantage of a 2 pt-deduction in opting for VJC? I wonder how other sec students who aspire to join VJC feels about such affiliation? :?

That's why many students choose to go to VS so as to gain the 2 pt for VJC. It's also one of my concerns and reasons which convince DS3 to apply for VS. If he doesn't choose VS, he'll need to compete for a place in VJC with other students who has this advantage. In order to receive this 'unfair' advantage, one has to be born a boy and score at least 245 for PSLE this year lor. :siam:tutormum:

Actually, the difference here is that, children do not get into their primary schools based on merits and those in top schools have gained 'unfair' advantage. Affiliation however, has allowed this group of students to continue enjoying this 'unfair' advantage. It is more fair for children to get into secondary schools based on PSLE results. At least, students get into VS or any other schools such as Catholic High on their own merits. If they do not continue work hard to achieve excellent results, they will still be oust by other students.

Catholic High does have it's own affiliated pri school. And well, among those Top Boys who made Catholic High Sec very proud in the last O-levels, were boys who made it in via Affiliation and scored less than the school's COP for Non-Affiliated boys. Nevertheless, they ended up scoring way better than the majority who came in non-affiliated and had higher PSLE scores than them!
So really, it can run both ways. -

RJC, HCJC and NJC have their sec 1 intake of the PSLE best of best (BOB), leaving excellent O levels scorers to vie for entry into only VJC and TJC as their biggest dream. And the L1R5 cut-off point for VJC is less than 3 points (after taking into account the bonus points). That means an academically perfect scorer with L1R5 = 6 points will never get to pass through the doors of VJC if he/she does not have required bonus points to help. Not to forget that the \"window of opportunity\" is getting smaller as VJC and TJC have IP intake at sec 3, and VJC is moving towards IP intake at sec 1 just like what NJC is doing now.

The intake of poly grads into local Unis is smaller compared to intake of JC students. I understand that some polys are doing post-diploma degree programs with overseas Uni, for their alumni, so this sort of divert the poly grads from competing to get into the local Unis.James Ang:

What about polys har? I read from the newspapers some months back that very good students are going to polys as well. They also go to the uni and get credits for some courses. I like undergrads from polys, very driven lot.
