I’ll say physics tuition was quite popular during my time, especially if ur math is not strong. It can become rather daunting working on those questions without help. Recent years, I see more teens having chemistry tuition.. as more attention is focused on chem being the compulsory subject to have for entry to many courses in uni… as biology is no longer a requirement. The child can choose either chemistry or physic tuition, if she/he wants to. Is child leaning towards engineering (phy) or research (chem)?
Can I borrow this thread and ask abt tuition related matters...
Geo/History - can study on own? If tuition, what extras do we usually get as in eg the tutors able to point which are more important/higher frequencies of coming out in exam qns.. skills in answering is difficult go grasp if study on own?
The 3 Sciences - possible to study on own for average students? Same as above related to additional benefits fm tuitions? Which Sci has more students going for tuition?
Any feedback is appreciated ..
I can’t speak for history.. my teenager seem to know which one of the humanities to drop already. I’m struggling to accept. Lol.
P.s. my children do not have tuition, except for on-and-off Mandarin enrichment classes. We are a English speaking family. -
Why so much worries? If kids got the confidence to walk why you still need to carry them. Even they fall down at the first step, they can still climb up and try again.

There is another alternative - something like \"master classes\". School teachers may devote time to teaching these skills, but not all students pay attention or practise the skills! Just listening to the instruction won't improve their skills. You can also find a tutor for a limited no. of sessions just to deal with these skills, but again, the child must actually practise and refine the skills. There's no necessity for weekly tuition unless the child needs a tutor to impose discipline.
Thanks slmkhoo! My worries always that she couldn't catch the 'skills'..ever told me her tuition during Pri time is a waste of money. She is very eager to try on her own but somehow I feel just worry .. -

In the ideal world yes, in the real world ..somethings got to give. They can love all 3 humanities but only have time to study for 1-2.Liew Nga Wing\" post_id=\"2045238\" time=\"1636215748\" user_id=\"195250:

They will be happy to study and get a good exam result if they love the subject.
These days they have so many subjects, not sure if interest is their priority.
How much of lower sec history is built up towards upper sec and to JC? Are they related?
Upper secondary History - content wise, it's new content. However, the skills required for Source Based Questions (SBQ) will be a built up from what has been taught in lower sec so it is necessary for the students to have a good grasp of the answering skills taught in lower secondary. -
To me, it is a pity that taking up a subject to study and going for tuition is just to see which questions to be likely in the coming exam papers and how to answer in order to score a high mark…not really interest to learn the knowledge.
Is it the aim for going to school and tuition?
My previous history teacher played a trick on us. She told us that our exam questions would only on those topics before 1945 even though she also taught us the Cold War between the USA and the USSR in 1960s. However, the exam came out with all questions on the "Cold War" and most of my classmates failed the exam. I managed to pass the exam with high score because I loved History and I even studied on the topics which were not likely included in the exam.
This is what my History teacher wanted to teach us…don’t anyhow control by exam… -

That's a pretty nasty teacher you had. I'm not sure what is her point in doing what she did. All she is saying is that it is ok to lie with a straight face. If a teacher doesn't want to give hints, then don't. It's better than misleading the class.

She wanted to know who were really love to study History and who were just came for exam. Some of my classmates were angry especially those parents were kiasu type.....some just laughed and said that they would study all topics in future exam.
