I think the standard varies among kids. My daughter is not those shining type, I did not send her to enrichment classes or teaching her at home. She is also those lazy type, even asked to complete school readers she also complains. And we do not speak English at home. So lots of factors. My daughter phonics is learnt through Leapfrog. Before the school teacher taught on Phonics, she already knows all the basic sounds of each letter, so she is not \"affected\" by the side effect of letterland as what other educator commented. So lazy mother -> lousy kid.
Anyway, as long as she is happy in school I am ok.

Yes, she will be one of the K2 teachers next year. I suppose it's because she is one of the few senior teachers in the centre. In fact, her daughter will also be in K2 next year.

Well, initially, her opinion of my son was rather negative, probably because my son wasn't well behaved in prior years. My son's opinion of her wasn't good either. My husband and my opinion of her wasn't favourable initially, because we thought she would be biased against our son due to the bad impression my son had on her.

However, throughout the year, our opinion just got better. Today, in fact, my son likes her very much (and also his Chinese teacher. But, hey, he has always liked his Chinese teachers, regardless who they were). We can also see how much she has done to help our boy in class - in terms of disciplining him as well as helping him in his studies.

E.g. in the Home-School Literacy Program, my son could finish one book in one day. Hence, he soon finished all the books in a short time. To help my son in areas which he was weak in, she introduced something outside the normal scope - budding writers and dictation. My son wasn't creative in his writing. So she felt my son needed more practice. Not only did she introduce this, she also makes it a point to go through my son's homework. We understand this is beyond her normal call of duty, and we truly appreciate what she has done because we can see the improvement in our boy's performance.

Our boy used to be vocal during the Chinese lessons only. Today, he is equally vocal in English class. This teacher has helped contribute to this, too.

One negative thing, though, is that she hasn't paid a lot of attention on Maths. I am not sure whether it has something to do with the Learning Vision curriculum, or she was simply overwhelmed. She seems to be involved in a lot of committees and activities.

Oh! Another thing. Her English standard is also good, compared to some other teachers in the centre. My son's form teacher last year - her standard was horrendous! :stupid: I was worried my son would learn the wrong thing. :dowan:

She looks fierce, but is actually a kind teacher. :celebrate:

I won't say it's no good. The fact that this method of teaching phonics (Letterland) is also adopted elsewhere means it should be recognised and tested. It works for my son, but not my daughter. So, the problem might just be my daughter. :stupid:

No, our daughter is not attending any enrichment course. We think sending the kids to full day childcare centre is enough for them.

Same here. The common complaint we hear from the teachers during PTC is that our kids (both the boy and the girl) are always tardy when it comes to doing classwork. They will only do when they are given the ultimatum. :stupid: :x

At least you exposed her to Leapfrog before the centre started on Letterland. My daughter? Sometimes, I really feel like :torchme: her! :wrongmove:
