As a new mum (my son is 13.5 months), I’d be interested to hear from all the experienced mums here about how they deal with being a FTWM, how they manage to handle the baby (or children) and the hubby and the household, pets, etc.


I work as a professional. I have no maid at the moment (no plans to get one) so sometimes my house and my cars are left dirty (esp. since there is a large condo being constructed right in front of my house). Between hubby and I, I am definitely the one who ‘takes charge’ of the household - I make sure the bills are paid (because hubby always forgets!), I keep track of what is running low (toiletries, petfood, etc.) and various appointments (baby’s checkups, people’s birthdays, etc.). I also ‘take charge’ of my son’s education/entertainment - I plan and carry out his Shichida home practice every night plus I do all the ‘research’ on all the interesting stuff that’s available for him (that’s how I ended up in KSP forum!). I try to have some time for myself too, but this is considered low priority. I have to sacrifice some things - like preparing homecooked dinner for the family every night - I love cooking but since my son came along, I can count my kitchen visits on my two hands.

No complaints at all. Still, sometimes I wish that I could put it on auto-pilot and put my feet up.

How do you all do it?

lovekidsverymuch: how wonderful that you have help! unfortunately my parents are in Sydney and my ILs are in Malaysia, so it’s just hubby and I in Singapore. My mum came to visit for a while over Jan/Feb - it really made a lot of difference to have even one extra pair of helpful hands.

Hi mummies!


I've worked for my 1st and current boss for 13 years now. Can't resign bcoz I married him :oops:, Have to help him lah (not that really I love the job).

3 kids = DD 10yo, DD 8yo and DS 4yo
MIL helps take care of my kids, maid does the housework and cooking.
Very grateful to MIL, bcoz she also goes through their homework AND she's a very strict disciplinarian
