Hi Love Clouds,

my son is in P3 this year, i don't really monitor his studies but i got a note from his teacher recently that he is struggling with his Science Subject. i've browsed the forums and noticed you recommend the centre Science Alive.
my boy is bright and doesn't like \"tuitions\", i have sent him to learning lab before for Math and he hates it (he won't tell me why)... so i m not keen to send him there for Science especially since they are not cheap! can you share more of your DD experience in Science Alive? It sounds promising for my boy who can't sit still... but i dont want to waste another round of $ on \"tuition\" for him, which he might hate?

Love Clouds:
Oh, one parent told me I gave the wrong tel no.
Sorry.
Science Alive's tel is 63488066

Hi SydneyBB,

I understand your worry. My DD1 found learning Science boring when she was in P3 as there are lots of concepts and keywords to memorize. As a working mum, I have long forgotten about some Science stuff, hence can't teach her. I subscribe to Young Scientists mag as she loves comics. I found that both my DDs can remember lots of concepts from there. They learn more and faster when they love the subjects.
But that is not enough to score in exams as their topics are different from MOE syllabus.
I want them to learn how to answer exam questions (sometimes I also gave them wrong answers as I didn't know what was required).
Science Alive which has both hands on experiments and worksheets makes my DD enjoys her lessons and I see improvement in her answering technique. Boys are usually more active and hands on, so I think he will love it more. Just like more boys joining Robotics cos there are more hands on.

Hi Love Cloud, Thanks!

Yes, My boy loves Young Scientists mag too! I have checked out both Lego Robotics and Science Alive websites to get some idea. I called both but only sign up with the latter for a Trial session. Mainly bcoz their receptionist is really warm and patient with my 101 questions... she told me the semester 2 classes have begun & generally full, but my son is welcome to sit in to have a feel, so i can take time to decide and arrange his schedules for semester 3! That's thoughtful, isn't it? Anyways, i'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will be money well spent this time! Will keep you posted šŸ™‚
anyone can intro me good science tuition teacher / centres in Jurong area?? Thanks in advance

My child is with Serena's Greenhouse in Jurong West. Google Serena's Greenhouse. It has a blog. They focus on answering techniques other than concepts. but they do not have many classes as they are not like other commercial centres. hence the classes are filled really fast by existing pupils.

Hi,

Is Serena's Greenhouse is exist? I sms and called her few times but no reply and she did not pick up calls.
Did you manage to contact Teacher Serena? The centre is still in operation. Sometimes the teachers do not answer the calls if they are busy. However, if you sms, they will reply. Alternatively, you can send an email to Teacher Serena.
The contact details are here:
http://serenagreenhouse.blogspot.sg/p/about-me-serenas-greenhouse-aka-mdm.html

I have introduced a few friends to the centre but if I am not wrong, they do not have vacancies for many classes.P6 classes are full since the beginning part of the year. Good luck!

Hi flametree,

I have not. Are they good? I saw a couple positive feedback on smartlab earlier in this thread so want to hear if other parents have similar positive comments.

We thought we found a good experienced private tutor earlier this year but she keeps changing & cancelling last minute. Wud prefer private tutor actually but prefer if he/she is recommended by friends or fm other parents from this website.

If anyone has good recommendation -private or group (Bishan/Thomson), please do share. Want to secure another before I stop current tutor. Thanks!
