Hi, Can anybody help solve this problem. Very urgent. Thanks in advance

Marks\t 0\t1\t2\t3\t4
No pupils\t2\t1\t3\t1\tP

Find the value of p if the median is 2.5 marks

P = 5

Thanks, btw, could u please explain me
Hi, median is the middle mark. Assuming you take 2.5 as a mark on it's own, the number of students who got 0, 1, 2, and 2.5 is a total of 7. Then because you need 2.5 to be the number in the middle, the number of people who got 3 marks, 4 marks and the 2.5 mark has also to be equal to 7. Therefore, 7 -1 -1 = 5.

To double check, you can add up all the values (2+1+3+1+5) = 12 and then +1 = 13 divided by 2 to find the median, which is 2.5.

Find Mean, median and mode of the distribution
Mean: Add everything up, divide by number of pupils.
Median: Find the middle number, just add all the pupils + 1 divided by 2.
Mode: The one with the most number of pupils.

Please try the questions first at least before just posting without even attempting ._. Mode is the easiest thing to find, and so is mean.

5(x² +4)=12x
step 1: remove the bracket by multiply 5 into the all the terms inside the bracket
step 2: move 12x from RHS to LHS

5(x² +4)=12x
5x² + 20 = 12x
5x² + 20 - 12x = 0

Stop here, try to solve from here. if hit problem do post then i will continue 🙂

A Sec.2 Maths question of Proportion.

Q) The scale of map P is 1:p and the scale of map Q is 1:q. If the same area is represented as 32sq.cm. on map P and 50sq.cm. on map Q, calculate the ratio p:q.

Kindly show workings as well.

Thank you.

Hi chrisu,

Determine the scale for area first from the given linear scale.

Map P
1 cm : p cm
1 cm^2 : p^2 cm^2
32 cm^2 : 32p^2 cm^2

Map Q
1 cm : q cm
1 cm^2: q^2 cm^2
50 cm^2 : 50q^2 cm^2

Since the actual areas represented on Map P and Map Q are the same,

50q^2=32p^2
p^2/q^2=32/50
p/q = sqrt (32/50)
p/q= 8/10 = 4/5

Ratio of p:q = 4:5

Hope this helps.

Hi, need help with this sec1 Qn:

The key to a code is given by three whole numbers. The key is transmitted from the headquarters by 3 agents, who were given the product of 2 of the 3 numbers. Suppose that the numbers transmitted are 432, 540 and 720. What is the key code?

thanks.
