That really make me think if smart kids/geniuses are inborn or k be nurtured!

      Atan:
Hi, my kid is now in P3 and doing well in sch. I had sent him for SM when he was 4-5 yrs and withdrew after 2 terms. My DH had wanted to withdraw earlier but I had persisted, hoping to see the effect of SM. There were 4 - 5 kids in the class, and it was apparent who were the brighter ones, my son being the second whereas a sweet Malay girl was the brightest and most competitive. I could see that the not-so-bright and alert ones remained the same after 2 terms and the bright ones fared better, mainly due to the fact that they are born smarter. It was funny that whenever the brighter kids do well, the sensei would say that it was the effect of SM . Frankly, alot of training can be done in the normal day to day activities such as in simple memory games, reading of road signs/names when in the car, identifying objects at home, naming the animals when at the zoo, plants in the garden(not just flower but exact names) etc etc. When I withdrew my kid, the Mummy of the brightest girl was considering to do so too as she couldn't see the real benefit of SM.
This was just my personal experience and for yr reference only. It is not intended to offend the diehard fans of SM.

Atan, Shichida is suppose to be more effective for kids 3 and below .. as they r learning subconsciously..

nature and nurture are equally important.. we cannot leave the not the bright on their own.. so nurturing is on our part to make them equally bright.. hee...

        thanks for sharing.

If there is only nature and kids are born smart and no nuture then there is no need for mankind to doing anything. Even adults do not need to try.

Singaporean parents are very kiasu including me. We all want our best for our kids and hope they will be better than us. My parents were the same.

Ofcourse we still love them even if they are not.

            Dear Daddies and Mummies,

I am interested to send my DD to Shichida as she is developing fairly fast for a 15-month old. I am getting feedback (both good and bad) to understand how SM works and if it is beneficial to your kids. I read that it will take at least a year for us to see results just like most brain development programmes out in the market and parents' participation is needed. Please send me your feedback if you have sent your kids for this programme and I would like to hear from you. 😄

i sent my girl to SM when she was young and then when it was my boy’s turn, i sent him to My Little Genius at hougang. Honestly, i don’t see my son being less advantaged than my girl. Quite a lot of hype abt SM. plus MLG is friendlier and the pace not so unbreathable.

As mentioned previously, I'm homeschooling my boy mainly based on The Shichida Method. Every day, we do about 30 minutes to 1+ hour of activities. Then attend 1 hour class a week.

He started at 15 months cos i knew of the method late and we waited for a term to start. Ideally, start pre-natal and at newborn stage. That's what I'm doing for second baby arriving soon.

For up to 3 years old, it's all about input. 4-6 years old is a mix of input and can see some output from child. After 7 years old, if the foundation is done right, the child should be well-equipped with learning skills to learn independently, efficiently and with a lot of joy.

Parents should NOT expect any output from the child and deliberately test the child to see what he knows cos this will suppress the right brain from opening up. It's about guiding the child with a lot of love.

If you can read Chinese, I suggest reading the 2 books by Shichida mentioned on my blog post:
                    http://www.mummysreviews.com/2011/06/27/developmental-milestones-vee-28-months-old/

At Shichida's parents / child sharing sessions, we've seen the older children producing amazing abilities. As for my boy, I find him quite fascinating -- very good language, memory, singing, creativity skills, etc. When he's relaxed enough (tuned to the alpha state of mind), his senses (guessing, telepathy, etc) are near perfect. And he's a very happy boy who loves learning and is sensitive to others' feelings. This is the beauty of early right brain education. And I believe every child can benefit from it, as long as the parent gives the right guidance.

Hi, in my opinion, it wont be that effective. the class size is smaller for kids 5 and above in SM.. cos the method is not that effective to this age group as compared to 0 to 3 year-old..

so, u can try out other enrichment instead. my opinion though.
