All About Right Brain Training
-
Hi blackdas,
Thank you very much for your detailed explanation. Yes, it gives me a better idea about the program as the “right-brain” education is the “in” thing but I hopes to know more before jumping into this wagon. Did you talk to any parents whose child are in this training before? I understand that “right-brained” children are more creative and artistic, how true is this? I really hope to hear from parents here (if any) whose child went through right-training training and have excel in this areas? Or is it because of this exposure or purely the kid’s interest to excel…
Anyway, the linking memory part seems like peg techniques. Any idea where I could buy those cards or do you make the materials? I hope to try this out myself hee…
Hi chiefkiasu,
I read from another post that your child is in Trio. How is the course content like? The teacher from the respective class will create their own lesson plan? Who will approve it? I understand that the school is very new and lessons are conducted in English, Mandarin and Japanese rotation. How qualified are the teachers? Are they able to communicate effectively with the children? I am thinking of enrolling my younger kid but the administrator of the school does not give me good impression (I won’t elaborate more here). However, it seem to me that they have very good parental guide and support that enables new parents to learn.
Hi mincy,
yes, I have enquired about the Tweedle Wink program. It is an online training for parents to teach our kid… really good for home-schooled children. I am considering picking up this if I finally decide to quit full-time. But I went through some slides on you-tube, the voice is so gentle that almost make me go into sleep mode (probably too tired after a day work)… Did you went through the course?
My older kid has lost interest in puzzle… he was progressing from 3, 6, 9, 12, 24pcs type till he was about 2 and half. Do you have any recommendation for memory games? I go and have a look in popular later as I got the disc. coupon from NDP and yet to spend hehe… -
hi Momresource,
yup, linking memory is a peg technique. I know shichida have their materials but you can make your own too. I just put clip art and lay them out on a piece of paper and print two sets. Then you can make up funny stories to tell your kid.
Here's more details on how to go about it.

I did not went through tweedle wink, but was quite tempted by it. But I sent my boy to shichida already so tweedle wink will be more like a supplement. My boy don't really like the 3-24 pieces of puzzles too.. he is okay with tangram puzzles and some of those block puzzzles I got from shichida though. I have not buy the memory games from popular yet... .but some of them look pretty similar to the games I saw at tensai shop... thinking of may be I should DIY the games though so haven't buy yet. I got the shape puzzle with magnet board...NDP got discount vouchers for popular? wah must check it out... -
I understand your dilemma in selecting the right program for your kid. By choosing a not so right one, we are actually missing out on the good program. It is an opportunity cost that to me its not distinctively clear.
I have to talk several parents whose kids have been attending Sichida for several years. Generally, they believe that Sichida has helped develop their kid’s specific areas as well as in whole. But the question is, by not attending Sichida, would the kids be not as good, no change, or would have improved better in another program. That we would not know unless we do a mass study over several years. It is unlike certain program like Learning Lab which have proven over several years that kids from that school definitely does better in school compared to kids from other programs or do not attend any at all.
Like you mention, those kids that excel in right-brain training, is it due to exposure or the kid’s interest. I really don’t think anyone can answer that. The line is very vague. Like what our SM Lee mentioned before, talent is inborn or is it nurture… -
Hi mincy,
Do you mind to show me the tangram/block puzzles so that I can have better idea? Or do you happen to know if there is any parents who might not need it anymore? I am more than willing to buy over preloved sets to try out.
The popular discount voucher is in the stack of coupons in the NDP goodie bag. If you need, I can give you my spare voucher.
Hi Blackdas,
Yes, you understand my feelings and I really appreciate your inputs so far. Especially with the variety of courses and various training methods available, I do hope to research more before committing ourselves to it.
Any parents here send their child to Igenius? -
hee I can't find any nice tangram sets so my is printed from
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Make_a_tangram.svg
I just paste both sides on a card board and paste a plastic sheets over it on both sides. You can use the shapes to make lots of pictures. Can try this site for samples of pictures to make with the tangram

will need go back and take pix for the blocks -
My son has been in Shichida for a year. I think if parents want to see good results from such programmes, they have to be really diligent in teaching their kids. If just depend on the school, the results will not be significant. Shichida has open house so momresource, you may like to check it out. BTW, i think Trio centre is opened by ex-shichida staff…

Hi mincy,
Thanks for the link. Now I know it is called tangram puzzle. I got 2 wooden sets that I got from those neighbourhood stationary shop (quality not so bad) and my boy was keen for awhile only. But I think the only toy he continue to play is lego.
I look forward for your photo block puzzle.
Hi Min,
Yes, I totally agree with you that parents involvement is crucial for any programs to be successful. I think all programs will one way or another be beneficial for the kid and parents, but we can;t possibly send our kids to all courses. One of reasons I am researching into the various right-brain schools to enroll my kid b’cos if some programs already coincide with the activities I am doing for them, I will give it a miss lor. -
Momresource,
Just to add, Shichida also trains photographic memory… I saw some materials available at Popular which you can use to train … but it’s in chinese though… block games also have which train their logic thinking -
Hi Chief Kiasu,
Can share which are the links the trio centre recommended for making materials? I run out of ideas
Thanks! -
