Improve your child's concentration in school

The first thing I would check is how much sleep they are getting? In P1 they shd be getting at least 10 hours sleep. Generally if you hv to drag them out of bed and they fall asleep in the car on the way to school its a sign they aren’t getting enough shuteye. A good breakfast is also important to give them energy to last the morning.

Sleep is the most impt.
Preschool 12-13h
P1-P4 at least 10h
P5-P6 at least 9.5h
Kids don’t watch tv on Mon-Fri and Sun. Applies to my teens too (but mainly it’s cuz they no time to watch)
They read at least 30 minutes before sleep.
No sweet stuff (esp choclate) after dinner. -

Something simple, a cup of milo/milk and 2 slices of bread with spread. They can hv half-boiled eggs or a breadtalk bun.
They hv no problem getting up. They are not sleepy in the morning cuz they yabble non-stop on our walk to school. -
So if they need to wake up around 6-630am, they need to go to bed about 8pm? Including the usual routine time, this will mean need to stop everything by 7.30pm…not easy to achieve especially for working mums like us…and with more than one child that needs our attention.
My kids in p3 just started morning session this year and their recent test results have dropped quite a bit compared to p2, especially for Maths…not so much to do with the level of difficulty as all are careless mistakes. May need to adjust their timing so that they can get more sleep and hopefully reduce the carelessness in the coming exams… -

Yup my kids prepare for bed around 8pm. They get up at 6.45am or earlier. Sometimes they get up earlier than their alarms. So if they need to wake up around 6-630am, they need to go to bed about 8pm? I hv a working nb who gets her kids to nap in the afternn so she can coach them when she gets home at night. They sleep at 10.30pm-11pm. They go to the same sch as my kids. She also gets her ILs to make her kids do their hw bef she gets home. So if there's any queries, they can ask her immediately when she gets home. But it is difficult to enforce it as her ILs don't understand the academic landscape these days.
She opted for part-time employment when her 1st child took PSLE. But cldnt do so for her subsequent two. Her first child just got his A lvl results. 2nd child is in poly. 3rd child is in a nbh sec sch.
Another working nb hires tutors to come in 2h from mon-thur just to monitor hw and set work.
My hats off to working mums. It's not easy balancing career and kids. -
My resently had daydreaming problem too… She is going to be 6 in next 3 month. I got complain from teacher that she is not really concentrate on class… Specially on doing workbook. Her sleep hour are good. Prepare to sleep atw 7.30 the scedule are tidy up her toys, eat fruit n drink a cup of milk. Then brush teeth and story telling. About 7.45 or 8.00 she already at bed. N fell to sleep in 10 min. Morning wake up around 6. Had breakfast n walk to school.
But i still not understand why she cant concentrate, if ask her what on her mind… She said i dont know…
Please give me some sugestion… What i had to do… -
At 5 going on 6, what level of concentration is the teacher expecting from your daughter? At that age most kids won’t be able to sit still and focus on a task for very long, and generally need to move around and exercise more. So perhaps you can find out more from the teacher what her expectations are, and how the school day is organised?

Agree with fable. You should ask the teacher to give you concrete examples. You should also ask if your child knows what is going on when asked. If the child knows, the child is paying attention but may be just doing normal fidgeting. If it is only for doing workbook, rather than ask what she is thinking, it will be more useful to check with your child if she understands the instructions, if she can see the words clearly (kids this age can still be farsighted), if she finds it tiring to hold the pencil for long. -
The teacher is good. They are very patient…
What they complain is that my daughter usually easy being distracted while doing workbook.
The workbook are not much. If she is concentrate it will finish in 10 min. But everytime someone stand up or someone comming, she will look at the person, n even the person are gone… She still look at it…
If like when the teacher doing some explanation couple of time she is like daydreaming but the teacher assume it is ok… You can’t expect their to hear you everytime.
Just the concentration when doing workbook.
I concern if she had problems, long ago when she about 3 month to 1 year, her concentration are very good to the point of scary. Because she will not hear you unless you tap her.
I’m planing to do a reward tactics…
Did you guys had any other options?
