May I ask what is the most direct way to get to Lijiang from Singapore? Thought of doing a short trip just to Lijiang with the grandparents. Thanks!

I think tiger may have cancelled. Their direct flight so there are no longer direct flights now. You can fly via kunming.

Oh I see! I was searching on tiger website and thought I was looking at the wrong airline. Thank you!!

    • RE: Improve your child's concentration in school

      fable:
At 5 going on 6, what level of concentration is the teacher expecting from your daughter? At that age most kids won't be able to sit still and focus on a task for very long, and generally need to move around and exercise more. So perhaps you can find out more from the teacher what her expectations are, and how the school day is organised?

Agree with fable. You should ask the teacher to give you concrete examples. You should also ask if your child knows what is going on when asked. If the child knows, the child is paying attention but may be just doing normal fidgeting. If it is only for doing workbook, rather than ask what she is thinking, it will be more useful to check with your child if she understands the instructions, if she can see the words clearly (kids this age can still be farsighted), if she finds it tiring to hold the pencil for long.

    • RE: All About Life Without Maids

Wow, thanks all for the great ideas and empathy! I guess only mums can understand the pain (real and otherwise!) of cooking daily. I am trying to cut back on cleaning and cooking to let it recover

Superstressed, thanks for the reminder of using a wrist support and the idea of keeping portioned stock for easy cooking. I had carpal tunnel syndrome after ds2 was born and it has always been my weaker wrist since. Trying to use my left hand more but when it comes to knives, ironing and carrying heavy pots …sweat:

Slmkhoo, good idea on the presliced meat! I think I shall do that for the coming weeks, and also buy a lighter set of cooking pots.

mine is definitely in bed by 9.30pm, sleeps by 10pm, wakes at 6.30am. He is usually quite free after 5pm. He is probably doing minimal work compared to sembgal’s daughter. He only brought home CL homework from school a couple of times this year so that area is definitely lacking. I think as a family, we are all quite ready to wind down after dinner time so we do not have the habit of pressing on too much after dinner.

Thank you, Superstressed, slmkhoo and tan9. I find that cooking is the hardest part for me to keep up consistently and I am often uninspired in this department, esp with a recurring bad wrist. I really don’t enjoy spending time in the kitchen but have yet learn to be more efficient inside it. I think I should plan a weekly menu to reduce the stress and start doing weekly prep work.

    • RE: 2019 PSLE Discussions and Strategies (Children born in 2007)

I think it depends on the child and the amount of work from school. Ds used to get a lot of homework in P1 and p2 and I only worked on his weak areas during school holiday. I also usually do a couple of journal writing with him during school holidays since P1.

Now in P3, the Chinese teacher does not give as much work and I have to send him for zuowen class and revise CL with him for about 30 min on most days. It may be textbook, assessment books, or vocab building. He is fairly independent for the other three subjects and I have left him mainly to his own devices for them. On days when he is "too free", I will give him some English grammar to do. Unless he specifically tells me he is struggling with a topic, I will generally wait for after exam results to come back to see what needs to be done.

He still has a lot of time to do origami, leisure reading or play outdoors.

Appreciate it if mums can share which dishes are good for freezing? Thanks!

Are you referring to freezable cooked dishes?

      Hi Superstressed,
Yes, am referring to freezable cooked dishes. I find there is a slight change in texture when I freeze some food, not sure if it is the wrong type of food or if it is because I sometimes use disposable containers for freezing.
