Ang Pow Issues...

I would always be in deficit as I only have 1 child and most of our friends and relatives have 2 or more...but I tell myself they have to spend more on new clothes  Just kidding...don't take this personal...

Actually, when kids know the value of $, parents will always be in a deficit position. -

Same here for me... For my side of the family I will decide the amt and from my own pocket, while for MIL, DW will prepare plus for her own side of the family.shine_fs:
For my PIL, I will ask my hubby to give and using his own $$$.
We've that practise too. I've to prepare for my own parents and grandparents. Meanwhile hubby prepare for his. He will bear the cost for all the rest.
I dun give my mum regularly, during new year I will give her $1388 as ang pow ... For my nephews and nieces, it'll be a std $10 ea. -

Same here. I used to give out 20/22 to close relatives but received back 8.... Don't know how many years liao until one year I decided to check the ang powers ds received. Was rather downtrodden because these were from close and well to do relatives too, and to add salt to the wound, I have one while they have two or three. Try not to be too calculative too but lately, have not been receiving much bonus and other half also not doing so well. So now, have decided to downsize our angpows too. After giving out 12/10 for few years then 'receive' back 4/6...
I not trying to be that calculative here, those are from close and well to do relatives...
He he...... now I 'smarter', using \"flexiplan\"

Mine is quite straightforward now, after some modification to keep it simple:
- $6 for kids we hardly see/friends’ helpers
- $10 for kids of close relatives/friends/neighbours/single grown-ups
- $50 for nieces and nephews
- $100 for own kids
We do not give to ILs and parents, as we have alraedy given them extra when we receive bonus. -
I only give to my parents and 2 grandmas (blue notes). Sister earns her own keep and more than me when I was working so no angpow for her. (I do give her presents, usually bought overseas, on her birthday though.) I have, like, maybe 2 nephews/nieces on my dad's side? I hardly ever see them so if I do, they get; if not, nothing from me. On my mom's side, no kids except mine so I gain lor.
I don't give to same generation people.
As for ILs, sashimi is in-charge of that and thank goodness, cos his family is complicated and BIG and full of kids. He feels obliged to give to his cousins who are very young too.
Since I'm a SAHM now, I must be even more prudent when giving angpows other than for my elders. -
Wonder if it is common this year but I found ang pow rates 'dropped'...
Seems that $6 is the popular amount to give this year, from what DS has been receiving.

Impact of recession? Lower/no bonus last year --> no money for bigger ang pows?
-
Has the market rate gone up?
I still give $4 for kids we met. -
Ooh, I get around $100 from my parents combined… my sister gets only $20, haha. But my friends all get $200. I know it’s bad to complain, but I just feel very depressed when people all get better than me
