I am also surprised that this kind of small talk can made it to media.

One thing for sure, mummyjune cannot bao $60 otherwise her identity might be exposed.

lucky we do not adopt Taiwanese culture. They open the ang pao in front of you and so many people queuing up behind and announce loudly to the person who writes the amount. lucky gave ang pao as per normal diner’s rate.

It is good idea to adopt that culture in 15 years time.

in China & HK, ang pow for wedding dinner besides aiming to cover cost, it must also reflect the position of the giver vis-a-vis the wedding couple

for example, an ordinary hotel dinner could cost HK$8k per table of 12 pax, but if giver is boss of the couple, the market rate is HK$20k

same rates in China too, Rmb 500/pax is the norm for city hotel dinner, but if boss attending, market rate for boss is anything Rmb5k upward

Den he say something that really touched me, he say he know I work very hard for him and although he cannot guarantee me promotion because many systems and politics, he say he will remember and try to reward whenever he can.

Nearly cried sia. He some more like half drunk. I dunno if he trying to make me work even harder. hahaha.

Not bias but ang moh gives angpow quite generous. Usually $500 so it is good to have angmoh boss.

I remember my local colleagues conned our ang moh bosses into giving huge ang baos for a colleague's wedding. πŸ˜†

The main instigator was our FC. He told a bunch of ang moh bosses that it is the norm to give ang baos starting and ending with figure 8 and cannot be below $100. So most of them give a minimum of $888.

most Ang moh tend to be less calculative & very generous in many ways πŸ™‚

I used to have an Ang Moh ex-colleague in my 1st job..very friendly old man..aFT I worked there for ard 3mths only, he won a lucky draw with 2 free air tix..was asking the whole office, whether anyone wants one of the tix, but have to fly to NZ & fly back S'pore same day as him(as he going home visit)..no one was able to except me who was still single+thus FREE to fly πŸ™‚ I flew wth him, travel alone through whole of North Island (a great experience), he brought me to some places also.. wanted to pay him the air tix, he INSISTED NO!! So I bought him a nice gift πŸ™‚
Till now, we still keep in touch & meet up whenever he comes S'pore πŸ™‚ he's already 80+ years old πŸ™‚
Sorry..a bit off topic!! just feel like sharing nice experience πŸ™‚

for our wedding, my hubby's boss, gave us $1000!! think he wanted to show appreciation for the help my hubby gave to company coz he was one of the pioneer staff πŸ™‚

& another client of his, 'bao' 1 table & gave $2888 πŸ™‚ we were so shocked with his generosity..hubby says he helped this client quite a lot whenever he can..

of course, there were extremely small ang paos also la..but shall not say too much la πŸ™‚ just quote 1 eg., my sis can actually tell her then-boyfriend, no need to give ang pao!! so that's $0!!
