NAS Storage Recommendation

I use Synology as I find their operating system and applications much more elegant and user friendly in the design.


My NAS doesn’t come with HDMI but it’s not a problem as my TV is DLNA compatible. I can connect it to my NAS via WiFi or LAN. I use it mainly for backup and for my media.

but Synology also seems to be most costly?

I also thought of just streaming the media through wifi, but also thought it would be easier
for DW and the kids to handle if there is HDMI…just need to switch the input source on TV.

right off the box, load Windows OS, and an instant second PC at home.

I'm not sure whether Synology is the costliest, but you can always check with the authorised distributor http://www.memoryworld.com.sg in Sim Lim Square. They distribute QNAP as well. I think NAS prices are mostly comparable. Actually, streaming via WiFi or HDMI is more or less the same, you still have to navigate through the TV or NAS interface (or Plex). While I personally don't think a virtual machine / station is useful, it all boils down to your personal usage and preference. I think you can't really go wrong with QNAP or Synology.

It's useful if you have large media files (who don't? ) and need to share files across PCs.
