Title: Modern Mondessori Childcare
Hi Mummies:

Thanx in advance

I have not seen MMI @ Raffles, but some other MMI branches, eg. @ Katong and @ Jurong West extensions have received good feedback from other parents. I have seen the one @ Katong myself, and have been very impressed by the principal and some of the teachers there. There is a good balance between the Montessori-advocated self-play with more regimented academic enrichment courses in their programmes. Do check http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/enrichment/modern-montessori-international out for more information.

I so envy you. My son is in MMI Sengkang, his form teacher is lazy and cant be bothered attitute. I am so worried for my son because he is going to P1 next year. Want to switch school also too late. I can only say MMI does have a good teaching metholodology. However, it depends a lot on teachers. So, is as good worst than those less prestige and cheaper pre-school. Imagine their school fee school. Worst, I have to send him for tution to compliment his weakness. I really regretted never switch him to another pre-school. So, my advice, if teacher no good, either you complain to principal and HOPE FOR IMPROVEMENT. Otherwise, switch early. Otherwise, you will be in my situation like me!

Indeed, the teacher counts A LOT in early education, whether it is childcare or primary school, up to Sec 2. From Sec 3 onwards, most Singapore students will be self driven, so teachers start to become less important, all the way till university where lecturers are more encyclopedias than teachers - only if you ask will they tell you the answer.
As you said, it is important to monitor the childcare's teacher during the early months to see if she is suitable. Sometimes, the teacher just can't click with the kid even if she is ok with others. Speak to the teacher first to explain your expectations, and see if she is agreeable to accomodate your suggestions. Otherwise, it is probably better to switch even after you complain to the principal, since it is likely the teacher will continue there unless she is REALLY bad.
But you really don't need to panic at this point. There's still plenty of time before P1 next year, and with the additional enrichment courses you are giving to your kid, I'm sure he will be prepared for P1. And how do you guage the proficiency of your son in his subjects? Sometimes, we as parents tend to expect too much of our children -
I second that MMI not all are good. A lot of complaints for the jurong West extension branch in fact. For me I am withdrawing my child soon. Sourcing for another one now. Headache!

Hi BZmom, I've heard otherwise that MMI at the jurong west extension is good, but I guess the experience is not uniform throughout. In your case, can you tell us what was the biggest problem you encountered that made you want to find another childcare? No need to name names, but the feedback you give will be invaluable for everyone, including the MMI, to learn from. -
Hi BZMOM,
if it is really not good. I suggest you to switch. For me, it is too late. Becos, kids need some for adapting the environment. However, MMI still has it’s good teaching methodology. Therefore, not sure what are the problem facing by you? If you have concluded that most of the teachers are not good, it is better to switch. Becos teachers play a very important role in pre-schooling. -

You may read this thread for some details. Got to back track. Yes, withdrawing soon in fact after searching for alternatives. -
my kids are in MMI West Coast .very good teachers and a good centre supervisor. Well I will be shifting to Jurong West soon and today I went to visit the MMI Jurong west..i was very impressed as it looked very big ,spacious and clean ..however ,very very expensive...
I am looking out for other schools there..my kids are in N1/ K1 ...2 of my boys ..can parents help me ..suggest other pre-schools in Jurong West area..thanks!! -
Chiefkiasu, sad to say that i am hving second thoughts abt ’ my positive reviews regarding the MMI @ jurong west ext’.
Now i am having doubts about the choice of teacher after reading what other parents hv shared in another thread and, what my son has encountered.
Seriously thinking about switching school. But as conniepng mentioned, kids need time for adjusting to new environment. Moreover, he said he is happy in it.
Now i am in a dilemma.
