dear mums, my earlier posts had mentioned that my 3yr old son still not speaking & communicates through screaming & crying.
well, at a recent family gathering, i had brought my son along, & my cousin's boys were playing with my son & my son, started screaming when 1 of the boy touched a toy that my son was playing. so the boy commented to his younger bro \"u better don't go near him, later he scream again, i cannot stand his noisyness, so irritating\". i was there & heard him said it. den , some relatives who noticed that my son was screaming, asking me \"whats wrong with him? keep screaming like got problem, u got bring him see doc anot?\" den another relative said\"i tink yr son got problem, u better bring him see doc\"
all sounded like my son got problem. i just said, he doesn't have any problem, he's just not able to speak properly YET. in fact, we left halfway cos the kids were tired.
worst, an uncle told me this\"wa, look after kids tired anot? who ask u get married & ve kids la\" i replied him tired sure will tired, but im happy cos ive 2 healthy kids & i never regretted getting married & having kids. so what he's an elder, so rude to comment like this when 1 of his children is already married.
To me, i feel that the people who has problems are my relatives, not my son.
Agree..sometimes their words can be quite disheartening ..we cant stop people from commenting and giving us sugesstion to bring see doc etc etc..diff kids develop at a diff pace...me too have a son who is a late talker....so dont worry wen time to come ur kid will talk non stop
...cheer up!!!
how old was yr son when he start talking?
He start talking at the age of 5 !!! ...now getting better... -
Any idea why ASD kids are having problem on sit learning ah? While NT kids can naturally sit ( paying or not paying attention n they still able to sit still)

Some are due to sensory issues and some ASD kids have ADHD too, hence can't sit still. And I think most of them have short attention span, so if they can't focus, they will move around. -

Hi,
Hi Lavina, which music therapy did your son attend? Is it Samonas? Your OT was from which centre? I heard that not everyone can start music therapy so fast as the body must be \"strong enough\" to go through it. I guess it depends on the OT's judgement.
The OT I went to was at a landed house ran by 2 caucasian women. This was 10 years ago. The woman was actually quite good in other aspects. Just that music therapy didn't work for my child. -
Double E,
Sorry to hear about your weekend. Hugs.
The Law of Progress: any progress consists of ups and downs. But keep up your effort and you'll get to where you're going.
Don't think too much and scare ourselves. We need to stay focused when we are with our child, so that we can pick out the \"trigger\" and work on it.
Sometimes, he may develop a fear for something which he was previously not afraid of. I remember one not so fine day, DS just got really upset with the fountain in Ngee Ann City. Since then he was afraid of all fountains, even small ones which he used to be OK with. For years, he would avoid all known fountains and if he suddenly chanced upon a fountain, he would scream :yikes: and run back. Ear plugs didn't help.
Sometimes, the fear will go away by itself. His fear for fountains subsided when he was 13, when we moved to our current place where there are lots of small fountains. Last year he even walked pass the \"mother of fountains\" at Ngee Ann City. :imcool:
Sometimes, OT helps. For eg, even when DS was in k1, he refused to cross any form of bridges on a playground. He would climb up, look at the bridge and back away. He even needed to be carried across an overhead bridge. Then we found this OT. She had this room which had a net covering the entire ceiling and a rope ladder to climb up. After a couple of sessions, my DS was climbing up the rope ladder and playing with her in the net hanging in mid-air. :rahrah:
Everything will work out in the end.

Is this the one near iras? If it is, then i'm not surprised. My kid went to this OT at novena years ago. Not impressed by her and totally inept.

hi schweppes,
Maybe it is? I remember it is around that area. So qiao. But I thought the place was well equipped and she did helped DS is some areas. Anyway, we stopped going when he entered P1, when there was a whole new set of challenges. It's like every few years, we \"level up\" and get new challenges. Keeps us occupied at all times

It was different for us. In my dd's case, found the OT to be really incompetent. I'm usually quite positive about most things but this OT is really rubbish. Sorry to say that, but it's true. She wd spend only 15mins with my child and the remaining 30 mins talking to us parents. My dh and I wd be like, shouldn't she be spending more time with our dd instead? When she was under this OT for music therapy, it did not help at all. The OT was very unsure and inept. It was a lot of guess work on her part.
If parents consider including music therapy as part of the child's OT, then a good therapist who knows the protocol is essential. For my dd, music therapy really helped tremendously under her first treatment (not under the incompetent OT). -

Mummies
I am now pulling my hair thinking how to help my boy be more responsive and engaging. These two weeks were really bad for him and I observed him in school for 2 days. He zones out easily, not singing with his classmates during singing sessions and just stood or sat there staring blankly. He wasnโt like that previously, though not exceptionally engaging, he would still participate in some of the actions and was more responsive. I donโt know what made him regress. Was it the music therapy? But I did not start him on intensive music therapy cos he only has his music therapy once a week at the OTโs. Or is it the biomedical treatment (I started him on enzymes two mths ago) or what is it?
The only console I have is at least he can answer the teacher correctly when the teacher asked him to spell words. He will say it confidently and loudly.
Mummies whose kids are older now, do you have such problems with your kids when they were younger? 3-4 years old? And is it true that there are times the kids will regress and then improve tremendously? What else can I do to help him?
