I am upgrading my medishield for my son. Is there a need to declare that he has ASD?
Yes if he has been formally assessed. If not, later they can claim non disclosure and refuse to pay when u claim. -
But I read that some companies reject outright on hospitalization policies so you may wanna check out first before upgrading.

Thanks Mashy,
I have called my insurance agent. She say I can declare cos now my son is not taking any medication. By right shld be able to upgrade. But in any case if he is unable to upgrade, his old plan shld still be able to cover him. Cos he bought his old plan before is formally diagnose with ASD. -

Not yet, its end Feb. Hope I will be in a good mental state to share by then. You know, my first visit to KKH PD on my doter's condition was late last year, and even after two years of diagnosis, I still cried in the car after that appointment.ImMeeMee,
Have your dd went through her IQ test yet? Can share the details?
I keep asking DH what happens if its not that she doesnt know, just that she cant perform cos its with strangers at an unfamiliar place etc. DH says that its part of her, and I would have to accept her as she is. Whatever the outcome of the assessment (and in any case its just an assessment) she is who she is.
I wish I can maintain the same wisdom and calm come the day. -

Thanks nugget. I will heed all your advice. Hope for the best when his new school starts next month.Summer tan,
I feel ICCP class are better for your kid too. They have teachers who are trained to deal with special needs.
Feel free to talk to us anytime, we have a good support network here. We are not alone. -

Oh dear. I didn't mean to rub salt. Sorry. I just wanted to know how it is being conduction and know more details only.
Be brave, children can sense our anxiety, have faith in your child.
Come that day, just act normal.. Your dd needs your support.
The IQ test is just a gauge of how they are doing, its not a session for them to give the death sentence. I think 50% of the time they will ask parents questions as well and so far I think our kids have all improved.
My friend's son didnt do well in his IQ test, she still puts him into mainstream P1. He is still doing okay and now in P2. -

Okay, I am getting cold feet. I told insurance agent to hold back the upgrade. I asked her to check if he is eligible to upgrade after declaration. I dun want him to be excluded for any brain related disorder after the upgrade. Sigh... Shld have bought the most expensive plan for him.mashy:

But my current medishield for him is also not too bad. A1 ward in govt hospital. I also managed to buy for him an accident plan. -
Summer tan:
Summer tan, NT refers to neurotypical. This is our lingo at this forum, rather than using the words normal or abnormal.
Thanks ImMeeMee. May I know what is NT?
Actually I just decided to call up the ICCP child care 2 weeks ago and the principal said since one student is leaving they can take in my son. I didnt know that there is a long wait list for other ICCP centres. Btw, the principal did not do any assessment for my son. We just went there and she talked to me about the centre's programme. Then i gave her the psychological report and that's all.
Yes, though my son can blend in to mainstream, he has difficulty socialising. The current PCF teacher feedback that he would sometimes scream or spit saliva, use f word (his father accidentally said it beginning of last year, he used it at K4K then after that didnt for more than half a year and recently started to use it but only in school not at home), hit his friends, purposely gave wrong answers during teaching which teacher said confused the rest of the students, cannot sit through during teaching time too. So i think he is much more difficult to handle than a severe ASD kid.
Oh you are staying in the north too? Is your child in preschool or primary school already? Thanks ya for sharing the info.
Ladies, thanks for all your advice and kind words. I feel so good that finally, yes finally, I have an avenue to turn to. Thank you. ..
My doter is coming to 6 this year. She is currently with an EIPIC center in the morning and a mainstream childcare on most afternoons.
Lucky you to be able to enrol into ICCP within such a short span of time. Good luck, and let me know at a later stage if you still need CC contacts up north. -
noted imeemee.
Mummies,
Is it difficult to get rid of PEC (picture exchange ) once learn ? -

Actually A1 ward at govt hospital is ok lah. Mine is also that. Prob with mine is that I cannot add the cash component to waive the excess.
so even though he has been hospitalized a few times, we have been paying everything coz it's still less than the excess.
