mashy:
Yes mashy. Short and clear instructions. I think u r great!
Yes, that's great suggestion, except that he could hardly tell me when he did these in school. Kekeke. I know his school has a reward system for the class as a whole when they demonstrate good character traits. They get beads and it's displayed in their school canteen.phtthp:
very good sharing, mashy. Thank you so much.
i'm just thinking ... this same chart can be used to help them in other areas as well, eg: develop good character values. example: before each day begin, remind them to do good. eg: diligent, hardworking (ie. finish the worksheet or handout teacher asked them to do in class, etc ), show kindness to classmates, compassion to animals / people around them, be Thankful, be grateful for food available for them to eat, be considerate, be obedient (obey your parents, obey your teachers in school).
so for each day - list down what activities they'd encountered or demonstrated. Then give them reward sticker according to each character value they'd displayed.
I just keep things simple coz he gets confused when I add too many things for him.
My instruction for him is always listen to teacher, do his work, don't hit his friends. And I told him how I loved hearing praises of him from his teacher. Kekeke. -

would be great if MOE can provide to parets a list of primary schools that are friendly to ASK kids, where there are at least a few trained primary school teacher(s) who are equipped to handle them.
Read the moe website that mashy gave. Ok all pri sch are supposed to have at least one AED LBS. But I guess really need to go down to see and talk to the AED to see how much they can offer. I'm quite keen with Nbps but again it's distance issue.
MOE should also build MORE schools like Pathlight, and help to subsidize parents in the expensive school fees.
My friend said each year got quite a lot of new cases of ASD (around 200) reported at KK hospital. Hence, there is growing awareness of ASD amongst parents now, compared to 30 years ago. And the earlier kids go for Early Intervention, the better for them ! -

Must look for AED LBS, this will be the teacher that supports our ASD kids. My friend is a teacher, he told me some AED LBS just ask parents to refer them to special schools that's all. Really need to look for caring AED LBS that will help the child.

Yes I totally agree with phtthp. I already went to schools around my area, I spoke to the P or VP and asked them how special needs children are being supported etc.
I also hope they are more schools like pathlight with afforable school fees so my son can go in next time. $500 per month + the distance there is really hard to swallow. -
MCYS slacks!!!
where are the donations use for? salary & bonus to the staff or top levels??? -

How can there be only 1 Pathlight school in the whole of SG and only at Ang Mo Kio, to support growing number of ASD kids ? Each year, about 200 new ASD kids are reported at KK hospital.
Surely it is high time for MOE to build more schools like PL. Don't understand MOE. Each year before P1 registration - MOE will announce a list of brand new schools in the West, in Punggol / Sengkang area for Mainstream. Why not just change some of these brand new schools, to handle the growing # of ASD kids instead ? This is a criticial, desperate, urgent need for such schools.
Each zone in SG (be it North, South, East, West) should build at least a few equivalent of Pathlight school(s) there.
example: parents staying in Jurong West having an ASD child need not have to travel so far, to go to PL. Or parents staying in Pasir Ris with an ASD child don't have to travel so far, to Ang Mo Kio all the way. There is a desperate, crying need for children of such to receive education much closer/ nearer their home, to cut down substantial distance travelling time.
$500 per month school fees is very steep - be it now at Pathlight, or at Rainbow (Yishun). My friend said Thank God luckily her P2 son receive $250 subsidy from govt. If not, she said don't know where to get $, to cough out $500 per month to pay Rainbow school fees. And each month comes by so quickly, in the twinkle of an eye !
to educate an ASD kid - the $ 500 per month doesn't just stop here. What about sending the child for this or that therapy ? going to burn another deep hole in the pocket. -

Unless u count the one in his class. I don't know what they do really. I understand they organize group social sessions etc but I've not heard from them at all. Well, according to her, my boy is very very high functioning, so I guess that's why. She said there was a p5 boy who needed pp to help him with toileting whereas mine has all these self help skills.
Ultimately, for my boy, it was his teachers who helped the most. Next were the little girls in his class. They are such a sweet bunch. My boy never spoke about the AED in his class. I hope he really didn't need much help from her, then, he would be able to go to upper pri more easily.
Ya man, $500 is so expensive. Pathlight is actually very near my place. It's even nearer to us than his current school. But since he can go mainstream, why not? -
phtthp:
I don't think it's that they don't want to build another pathlight school. It's just that they lack special needs trained teachers and therapists. No matter how many schools you opened, ultimately, u need teachers. Anyway, they now have 2 campuses in amk.
Yes, totally agree with you.nugget:

It has always been that special schools are under the poorer ministry MCYS. Good that MOE has decided to take more responsibility and is providing more funding for them. Wonder if it has been officially transferred over to them.
Btw, I just saw on their website that they are having an open house this sat. So those who are interested can check their website.
