Summer tan:
What do you guys think of shadow teacher? Has anyone engaged before?

I have heard of maids who are shadow teachers for their employers. Children with autism who go to regular preschools such as kindergartens have these types of maids around for facilitation. If you are looking to send your child to mainstream, you can consider going to schools such as ARC and a normal mainstream preschool for the child to adjust. This is just a suggestion from me.

Thanks sembgal, I've no domestic helper and I also don't think I'll get them to be a shadow teacher. Do u mean ARC as in the eipic centre?
Some maids are really good but it depends on luck to get them to take care of the house and take care of children with autism.

Maybe hire an educated maid with some teaching background before n have a heart to help asd child. This maid need to speak English so can’t be those usual Indonesian or Burmese maid. Ie train this maid to be a shadow teacher. If you hire local to be shadow tr, v costly - a few thousand $ per month. But first find out from that school if they allow shadow teacher in the first place. Not all schools permit. As yr child still young, maybe start shadow tr in a kindergarten setting first.

Summer tan, there was a write up on shadow teachers for primary school last weekend - if I am not wrong, it should be on Saturday, if not can check Sunday Times.

The article quoted a few commercial centers who are in this business. Not sure if you are asking for shadow teachers for primary schools or pre-schools, but you may like to retrieve the article to get the contacts and check them out.

Yah agree with you. Get an educated maid who can read English novels. Usually they can help shadow the child and provide necessary assistance.

Perhaps hire a Filipino maid who has some teaching experience before in Philippines. Ask agencies to help u find one. Some Filipino speak good English. You interview them personally b4 decide your choice. Tell her clearly out front what is her job duty like, before she come over here.

Can maid be shadow teachers? The school wont need anyone with certain qualification in order to join the class as shadow teachers? It will be chaotic if protective parents sit in as shadow teachers shadowing their own child and keep challanging the teachers on tasks to be done.

Anyone know so far which are some primary schools that do allow shadow teacher to sit in? And what are the job duties of a shadow tr? Any parents with asd child (either now or in the past) who ever hire shadow tr before, dun mind sharing here how effective is it? And also shadow for how long? Dun think it’s for 1 year so long.

If you are referring to preschools, they are more flexible and will allow 1 ASD child with the maid in the class. But not many parents will share with you which schools take in ASD children as one class the most they allow 1 special needs child to blend in with the rest of the children for social interaction.

I am talking about primary school. Would they allow maids/parents to stand in as shadow teachers?
