Blk 30 something also has nice XO fish bee hoon. How nice to live in that area !!!! hahaha
The blk 30 something one should be the one in Jumbo coffee shop near Buona Vista MRT which is actually Dover or the one in Holland opposite the Buona Vista Swimming Pool. Ghim Moh has only 22 blks of flats. Ghim Moh market has quite a few famous food stalls, but the Q is just scary, especially weekends. Me no stay there anymore, its my parents' place. Funny thing is that when I was staying there, seldom dine in Ghim Moh. Instead its always Clementi or Bt Timah areas. -
Ah Yat Seafood in Turf City has pretty good tasting crabs too.
You (esp kids) get to see and choose your own live seafood, cook in any suggested ways on the menu to your preference.
Price quite reasonable for the freshness and quality -
went there in May during the so called 1/2 price live seafood promo (guess they have it whole year round?) - 6 adults with oysters, 1xcrab, prawns, fish, veg and another normal dish - cost below $200. -

enough to satisfy your craving.
In SG, I think Long Beach still holds the title..
Unfortunately, the Best Chilli Crab I had was not in SG. It was during one
of the kelong trips I had with some colleagues in West Malaysia... -

How could it be? I thought we Singaporeans invented chilli crab?? -
ChiefKiasu:
CKS, we may have invented it but we may not necessarily have mastered the technique of cooking it..buds hubs:

I had chilli crab a couple of years ago at Hua Yu Wee. I remembered it being not too sweet, and true to its name, really hot and spicy!!
My wife and I both thought it was the best chilli crab we ever had, and meant to go back for more. But we never made it back because it was kinda out of the way.
For the nostalgic folks, this is the only remaining restaurant along Upper East Coast Road in an old colonial bungalow.
You can read more about it here: http://www.hungrygowhere.com/singapore/hua_yu_wee/ -

Went for our crabby dinner at Blk 19 Ghim Moh Road last Friday near to the car park one. Thats why we ordered, 4 persons (although my girl is only 13, she eats a lot !)Hiya chilli crab lovers
Theres Ghim Moh Road Blk 19 coffee shop, don't know the name, but its pretty good. Don't go during peak hours cause some regulars actually call to make reservation. Also, if you like it spicy or lesss spicy, can request.
:celebrate:
PS: Ghim Moh Blk 19 is opposite Ulu Pandan Community Club.
- About 1.6kg of chilli crabs - not too sweet, not very ketchup, spicy just right
- About 0.8 kg of white pepper crab - very nice, I love it ! Cooked with white pepper, big onion, spring onion, ginger ...
- 1 small fried rice and 1 small black hokkien mee. The hokkien mee was cooked in traditional way, with ηͺζ²Ή. Nice but not saltish enough, a bit blend.
- 6 fried bun - small pieces, normal fried bun, nothing much to comment
- A oyster vegetable
Total spent $123. Quite satisfied for the chilli crabs and white pepper crabs. Just that the service was not that good.
Wanted to eat durian after that, but felt too guilty, so better reserve for another day. :celebrate: -
I had never had 'real' chilli crabs before (save for the ones my mum prepared using some smaller crab
) cos my dh said want to eat crab, must eat steam ones so that can 'taste' the meat instead of the chilli.

Yah same here, after eating the chilli crab that my mum cooked nothing else can compare. She tried to make hers like the versions that we tried outside and added ketchup once, kenna scolding from all of us.
Your dh canto or teochew issit?
Damn, everytime I come into this section I start to get cravings. -
actually cold crabs bring out the sweetness of the crab meat - but thatβs only if itβs steamed. yummy!
