      resgmom:
We also received the HAST result a few days ago - reading, maths and abstract reasoning results according top 10%, 15%, 50% and bottom 10 and 15%. As expected, the level is \"middle secondary\" - apparently Singapore needs to use mid-sec test in Australia to administer to our P6 😓

I am wondering for this particular result, whether they're comparing the cohort of the entire middle secondary (from all the data they have from Australia, Singapore) or just with the NJC-DSA cohort who took the hast test.
I think should be NJC-DSA cohort.

Does It means top 10% stands higher chance of clearing initial round ?

I wonder how well will Mr. Ang click with the existing culture of the school.

            Found a link on Mr.Ang
            http://courses.nus.edu.sg/celc/Symposium2010/MOE_abstracts.html#01

Ang Pow Chew is the Deputy Director of the Languages and Literature Branch in the Curriculum Planning and Development Division, Ministry of Education Singapore. Over the last 20 years, he has served in various roles - Teacher, Head of Department, Principal of a Secondary School and Deputy Director of Educational Technology. The Language and Literature Branch is involved in the design, review, and revision of among others the English Language, Literature and Theatre Studies & Drama Syllabuses, and the implementation of these syllabuses in schools. In addition, the branch promotes activities to stimulate interest in these subjects in schools.

It's interesting they put a humanities person into a school strong in math & science. actually i'm quite interested in their humanities programme. wonder if he can up it further.

Elder boy is not continuing with Advanced Literature next year. In his present cohort, only one class doing this subject. Out of this one class, only 3 or 4 boys (including him). No like minded kaki. Sad.

My guessing is top 25% is able to get into the second round interview.

So the breakdown is something like this, if I remember correctly from reading through the forum:

~500-600 sit for HAST test (everyone who applied will take the test - no need to submit results, just personal statement)
~150-200 shortlisted for 2nd round (need to provide sch results at this stage)
~40-50 offers given (through group activities and interview - no WL - only CO)

It seems that it's slightly easier for a boy to have an offer compared to a girl  since NJC could be keen to balance out the boy/girl ratio (currently ~30%/70%) through DSA

Girls dominated the IP co-ed sch previously (same in RV/DHS, maybe except NUSH?) because there are fewer single sex IP sch choices for girls compared to boys and girls *in general* score higher in PSLE compared to boys, but things might change as top girls have more choices of IP schools now (MGS, SCGS, St Nicks, etc)
